A couple friends that fly acro have them and love them. For me, the idea of a device that will sometimes detect nearby traffic without giving much of a clue as to the whereabouts of that traffic has little benefit beyond getting your head out of the cockpit more often. I owned and used a couple earlier versions and this one is definitely better at suppressing false alarms but AFaIK it will still miss many targets at a fairly close range when used with the supplied antenna in a metal airplane.
 
Gary, I love mine, and figure it may have saved me from mid air or at least a few close calls. Yes, it is not pefect, it will not see anyone below and behind if using the built in antenna & on the dash. Mine will pick up my own rental 150 if the transponder antenna is dirty or when the batteries are low. I recycle it & it works ok again. Knowing traffic is at your altitude is enough, even if you don't know which way all you need to do is to adjust your altitude to avoid. Isn't that alone worth $500 & your life? It does not replace the 'mark one eyeball's" but it will provide a second line of defence. The new ones have a redesigned faceplate, my older one the large button broke twice ,but i find the little stub that remained actually easier for me to manipulate so i have not returned it for repair a second time. I belong to two clubs so being able to easily move it from A/c to A/C is a plus for me. Zaon has been faulted for poor customer service, but my experince with them was great. Quick return after repair. I find the batteries last me about 6-8 hours , but i tend to replace them at about 5-6. any more questions? I love my MRX!! DaveR
 
Gary, I read the AOPA posts, if you notice i posted that I had a positive experince, and a fellow on a different forum i use also had good experince. the Purple board has one for sale for $400. Notice also almost all the people with trouble were using it with another system and it was the cable that was bad. Those who i know use it stand alone and have no troubles. DaveR
