YouTube guys

It seems that a little critical success leads to longer, less funny, and more repetitive submissions. Perhaps they need a certain length to get more ads in?

I dunno the motivation. I do see the trend.

Longer videos, longer watch times, move up in the recommended video algorithm. It's all about beating the algorithm if you are trying to make a living at it.

Baffled why anyone would willingly watch more commercial ads than we already are forced to. I skip every ad in every form at the earliest opportunity -- especially since I've probably seen it a hundred times already (no, I have no need whatsoever for Grammarly, thanks).

One of my son's friends was annoyed that I muted TV commercials. Someone worked hard to produce that, he claimed, and we should give them the courtesy of paying attention to it.

For me it depends on who it is. There are some small time guys who I don't mind letting the ads run (albeit with me not watching them) if it helps them out. TV, ignore. Some of the bigger guys, ignore. Seems like the biggest can set it so you can't skip the ads at all.

Supposedly 10 minutes is a magic number for making money off of YouTube videos. The other thing is that once people get some success and some sponsorships, then they seem to end up trying to milk the money.
 
I am a youtube Red subscriber (Thank you Cobra Kai) so I don't see ads anymore.
I wonder how they divvy that money up since there are no ads.

I see in your latest video that you have a couple of gimbled cameras. Are they mounted or did you have someone holding something OSMOish?

I enjoy your videos and am a subscriber. I also fly a Tiger, and trained and flew in CA at the beginning of my flying (~30 yrs ago) so I enjoy seeing you go to some of the places I’ve been. Keep it up!

It’s just a GoPro 6 and 7 on a standard mount. They’ve gotten REALLY good with the image stabilization.

7 is even better than the six. I just set mine on the dash attached to a heavy pad and no vibration noticeable at all.
 
Whats the best deal going on a 7 right now?
 
I don't watch ads, ever. I have Red and subscribe to all the major aviation 'Tubers.

They've had an ongoing deal where you can trade in any digital camera, working or not, and get $100 off the 7. I've heard about people calling GoPro sales and talking their way to the discount without needing to trade anything in.

I’d not seen your channel before, but just subscribed after watching the four most recent. The creepy Auburn hotel scene was awesome. Your editing is fantastic. Well done!

I hate the editing part. I dislike the rat race part that you get sucked into but you start to think "If this keeps growing, maybe it will bring in a little money"

Then you have this part that is illogical sort of like buying a lottery ticket. You know you aren't going to win but you play the mental game of what if.
It think it would be great to be able to do it as a full time gig. Realistically that won't happen but you start making a few bucks and the "what if" gets more powerful........

The challenge in a round the world flight is not the flying. It's the bureacracy/paperwork, and the funding. If you have a company doing all the clearances and logistics, and somebosy else paying for it, it's really not hard.

FWIW, Matt started his own software company at age 12, it was so successful it was purchased very quickly and he went to work for the company that purchased it. He along with some sponsorship funded the trip. He also graduated from MIT, is a professional speaker and has a big data analytics company in stealth mode right now. Like him or not, he is a smart young man and self made.

As an aviation YouTuber, even if I'm not one of the channels you watch I'd like to thank you for even thinking of ways to help. It takes a lot of time and effort for me to make a video (I'm tech stupid) and honestly, I'm not one of the better producer of videos so I can only imagine what the better ones are putting into each video.

I DVR'ed the TV show they (Buffalo) had for a while and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I don't get to watch as much aviation youtube as I'd like with work, family and editing my own stuff takes that time from me. That said, I watched the video here you linked and I don't understand his 25K number. It seemed he referenced that number as an amount he received from youtube since Dec 2018. Considering I have more subscribers and what I'm guessing to be a comparable amount of views or more in that time, I truly don't understand how he made that much in 6-7 months.

I'm more aligned with @SixPapaCharlie but that's okay...I'm not complaining. I do it simply to share my passion of general aviation and any little bit that helps contribute is more than appreciated.

*I'm not sure what type ad's Mikey selects. I try for the skip-able ones at the very beginning to be less annoying for people. I'm a relatively small guy on the scene and don't want to turn people away with too much of that.

I select skippable video ads as well. I think it would be pretty ballsy for someone of my size to expect people to sit through a 15 second video just to see me pour oil on myself

For pouring real, hot oil on yourself, I would watch a commercial. But not for chocolate syrup.
 
I have no clue how the revenue works, but I know Mikey put out a video every day for over 5 months. During his live chats, I know people donated while watching, so he might be including those in the 25K figure.

Didn't realize he was putting out daily videos...in that case, his 25K number does seem likely. That would require some serious computer time to keep up that schedule.

For your typical 25 to 30 minute video, how long would you say it takes for you to edit and upload a video?
