Your Sexy Plane Doesn't Impress Your Spouse

Let the little filly pick the colors for the trim, rugs and curtains.
It makes them feel like they are an important part of the team.

My wife wants faster and (a) radial engine(s). The only thing holding her back is the price tag. She likes our boring 182 because the cool stuff is too expensive. :)

Radials work just fine. I was flying a T-28D Mark III on the circuit in 1976, when I met my wife.

In the interests of full disclosure: I always thought it the Sierra Hotel airplane and the ruggedly handsome pilot that swept her off her feet.
It turns out she was more impressed I had a job.
Anyway we're going on 38 years, and I'm sticking with the airplane story.
It will sound better in my memoirs.

Ohhh, so it's the big engine B/C/D models that do the trick! I took my wife up in our A model, she didn't like it much. Too hot in the back, not enough ventilation for her... good thing we have a big engine D/Fennec on the way, that'll fix it!

BTW, anyone wanna buy a nice T-28A?

Your memoirs would already pretty beefy with stuff, sir.

But I definitely get what you're saying! LOL.

Great flying airplane, aren't they?
Where did you find a Fennec? I thought they were all overseas and not allowed back in the States.
There is also a turboprop version, but I've never seen one. I'll bet that one will kick you in the backside when you pour on the juice. :)

If you are serious about wanting anyone else to tag along on flights then you must have a chute. Once you tell them your plane has a parachute they can't wait to get in it.

Yep, I like the 28! Flies like a big Bonanza, only it's really, really thirsty for fuel and oil. Fun to fly though. The Fennec our partner group bought is a hangar queen in Ramona, CA; it hasn't flown in a few years so we're dumping some $$ in it to bring it up to snuff. There are quite a few Fennecs on the registry, imported from France, Morocco, Honduras, etc. Ours is Fennec No. 1, the first production ship, sn 51-7632. Can't wait to bring it home... 1425 hp will be a hoot.

Yeah, a big Bonanza that can hold it's own in a furball. Used to love jumping the AT-6.
You are correct. Gas and oil can break the budget, and the older birds preferred 140 or higher octane. Almost impossible\impossible to find.
There was a time, you couldn't bring the Fennecs back into the country. Glad that's changed.

If you get a chance, post a picture?

My wife picked out both planes. She picked out the Tampico because every Cesspool she sat in made her car sick with the high panel and lack of headroom.

She chose the Tampico because the price point was palatable ($38k), it was new enough (1993) and if she hated it she'd let me keep it at that price.

Well, she began to like being able to get anywhere in the state of CA in under three hours, the royal red carpet wherever we went and didn't get that airsick after all....

So when I suggested a Maule, she cringed at the high wing until she flew one.... out of the 8 Maules we looked at, she picked the one she liked the best... because she could fly with the windows open!

Isn't impressed by incompetence either.
