Woot of the Day

Asus are good computers. They have been building motherboards for years. All they did was slap their name on it instead of just being the mobo only.

That's a good deal.

My aircard is the PMICIACAIMCIAIM (pick some) variety about 2" wide. Anybody know if there's a USB adaptor for those things?

Not likely; more likely they'd just fix you up with a new aircard, a USB one.

AT&T, Verizon, Sprint?

ATT. It fits the Fujitsu I use most, and the USB versions are notoriously fragile in the hands of the fumble-fingered. BTDT. It lasted less than a day.

I am sending this from exactly that netbookmodel from Panama. I have been very happy with it for a number of months. I doubled the ram. Battery life fantastic. I wouldn't dream of carrying a full size laptop anymore.

Yep, that's a problem.

There are some newer Netbooks with the 3G access built-in, which (as long as you are comfortable committing to a particular carrier) is a great approach. The carriers (AT&T, etc.) typically subsidize the purchase price of the Netbook, too. The internal device does away with the whole issue of external devices getting broken. I suspect that you are going to have a harder and harder time getting card-type devices - the market is going away from that.

You just had to throw that in, didn't you? If you were not such a good guy, I'd hate you!

Lear or Falcon this trip?

I can't stand the smaller than normal keyboard. I got rid of mine.

This was a Lear 35 trip. Having a good time; wish you were here :D.
This is pretty darn close to a full size keyboard. I've never had any trouble with it.

...and he's an old fart, like me!

I've got an ASUS netbook that I bought last year for our trip to the eastern Med. I wanted something I could stuff in the camera bag so I didn't eat my carry on allowance with Alitalia (may I never ride them again). Would I want it as my primary laptop? No. Was it adequate for what I wanted it for? Absolutely. 160 GByte harddrive gave me all the room I might ever need for downloading pictures off the cameras each day. Gave me internet access for uploading pictures to Facebook to brag about where we were and to read e-mail. For what I bought it for it worked great. But, the keyboard is too small, as is the display (form factor is not good for browsing the internet). It served it purpose well, but it was a nitch purpose. And I'd drag it along again for that purpose without hesitation.
