Took a quick trip to WI to attand a funeral. Launced about and hour before sunrise and this is what greeted me 1/2 way into the 2.5 hour flight. Gotta love sunrises in an airplane.

Picture quality is poor, take with my phone, but kinda pretty. Gonna be my screen saver for a while.

I'm always hearing planes flying over when I'm waking up in the morning and think, "some bastard is having a more fun than me already".

All you have to do is set the alarm clock.

I love watching the sunrise in an airplane.

What is really fun is go to 10,000' watch the sun rise, chop and drop and watch it again on the ground.

How well does this work? How fast do you have to come down?

At 38 degrees latitude from 10,500' sunrise to a sea level sunrise your looking at approximately 9 minutes from my figures. So about 1,167 FPM. By descending at 2,000'/min, it should gives us time to get out to get a family pic. I think we will try that sometime.

Seems kinda fitting and ironic at the same time... You are heading to a funeral and witness the birth of a new day...,

Nice Pic BTW..

when I take my girlfriend flying it's not for the solitude, it's for the privacy. :D

A funeral should be a celebration of a life, and although there is mourning, the sunrise is fitting. Most funerals I've been to have been on beautiful, sunny days.

The one that I went to for which it was raining was my friend who was killed at Virginia Tech. God was crying that day, too.

I agree. After 101 combat missions in a P47, Bronze Star, 13 Air metals, shot down twice, raised 3 kids, self made muti-millionaire, ripe old age of 91, I'm "sad" he is gone, but glad I knew him. Capt. Ted Dobrick did alright for his country, his family, and himself.

Cool.

That's a nice bit of photography, Geico. You might consider taking to the air on Friday to capture the end of the world. If for some reason earth was still intact, and I survived in the basement of the strip club with Sasha, Starfire and Charity and managed to repopulate the world within a 30 year period, you might have a very valuable photograph to sell. It could make you rich!
