The original "I don't know it all" of aviation.
Yup. I like how you can advance the forecast time with the watch crown and see how the wind forecast changes.Okay, I upgraded and now I see the app. It's actually kinda cool.
One of the most frustrating UI's around.
Oh windy is very useful, and I subscribed, but I’m sorry, the UI sucks.I found it frustrating at first. It seemed unintuitive, because it’s so different.
But now that I’ve got the knack, I think the UI is brilliant. And I pay for the upsell version.
Windy is especially valuable for planning cross-country trips days in advance because it has data that far out, and it’s so very easy to scroll forward and back in time, to decide which day is best for the trip.
The watch app also has a clever time scrolling that’s easy and fast, as Mike mentioned above. Within seconds of installation I used it to find when the wind direction would reverse at my location, as a front comes through. Not many features yet, but a promising start for the watch.

AOPA flight planner includes wind prediction.
Garmin Pilot does.
Foreflight does.
Fltplan.com does.
Basically all tools now include it. How is stand alone surface wind helpful?

Just for the record, I didn't say the UI was hard to use. Just that it's frustrating. When you're creating a route, hold your breath because if you don't caress it in just the right way, you'll be starting over from scratch.Tim, surface wind is just the default layer for the Windy website and ios app. There’s much more.
There are also layers for precip, ceiling height, temp, wind at altitude, and more. You can add isobars to detect fronts, troughs etc. To access all that, just click on the little triple-line icon to bring up the menu.
You can also get details for any location on the map by touching that location.
Once you discover those little innovations in the UI, you’ll find it’s easy to use.
