Why not a fan-style covering for props?

As a species we peaked around 50 years ago. Darwin of course accounts for our own invented ways to die. If the "strong" of the species (strength can be mental rather than physical) create things and the "weak" can't figure out how to keep from getting killed by it, the genetic sequence that makes them stupid gets to die with them, hopefully before they get a chance to breed, unless of course we convert to a Soilent economy, then the stupid will be like Doritios, "Crunch all you want, we'll make more..."

Based on what data?

There is no evidence whatsoever that humans have improved in any discernable functional way in 5000 years, other than marginally faster 100 meter times.

I disagree. It's been relatively recently that humans have gotten to the point where our main occupation is no longer simply surviving. We're more educated and have developed an absolutely insane amount of technology in the last 120 years, because we no longer have to spend our time hunting and harvesting and otherwise attending to basic needs.

Sure. That's better. But all of that was just an evolution of technology and knowledge. You really can't say that you're a more intelligent person than someone 100 years ago...All you can say is knowledge has improved and evolved. I suppose you could consider that intelligence but I don't.

Not really intelligence, but productivity and thus better use of our intelligence. Rather than outsmarting bears, we can make computers.

Based on our advancement and attitude towards advancement. Advancement has always been fought against, but that fight was typically overcome. The tide has shifted now and the stupid are winning. I blame it on legislated safety, it's really thinned the gene pool....

Hunh? You're serious?

Any "advancement" in earlier times was the provenance of a select few. The democratization and diffusion of knowledge has increased the
potential aggregate knowledge -- thus the "advancements" we see in various technologies.

You're a sailor -- how many people today can build and sail a square-rigger as competently as a Cook or even Bligh?

Has anyone in the last century matched da Vinci, Michelangelo, Mozart, Franklin, Bach, Linnaeus, Calvin, or Handel in output?

IMO the species peaked about 40 years ago. in fact, 40 years ago on the 20th.

In a few years when they have discovered how to harness gravity a a source of power, all of this will be moot anyway. :)

They are "winning", trouble is that stupid never really wins in the long run and they don't even know that or if they do, don't care.
