I am going to start letting it play while I'm getting ready for bed each night.

They even have an app that I use on my phone. ATC blasting through the speakers in the car somehow, puts a big fat smile on my face...

I like to find busy GA airports in IFR conditions. I don't like listening to Clearance Delivery in the big Bravo airports.

I listen on my phone whenever I'm flying commercially. Sometimes lets you know why the hell you haven't moved yet.

I get it...just don't straddle any lines in the car...:D

I listen at home, at work, and in the vehicle. Sometimes, when I'm driving the big Jeep with the doors off I have to stop myself from yelling "Clear!" before I turn the key.

I have the app on my iphone and sometimes I'll listen to it for hours while working outside. Occasionally you'll hear something funny or odd. Or you'll get the entertainment of a testy controller going after it at a guy who clearly doesn't spend much time talking to ATC.

There's something to me that's relaxing about listening to ATC while I'm not burdened with the tasks of communicating with them and flying the airplane too.

It doesn't always beat music, but sometimes it does:)

LiveATC is greater than star dot star.

I put it on Bluetooth in the car when I'm in rush hour traffic. I find music puts me to sleep, but listening to ATC at KAPA and trying to visualize in my head what the various planes are doing, where they probably are in relation to the airport or on the various approaches, is more mentally engaging and fun while I'm staring at the ass end of the car in front of me.

Look. Everyone is some kind of nerd. That's just the kind of nerd I am. :D

I'm glad I'm not the only one to do that! Most of my drives home I'm listening to it because I'm not in the mood for music or talk radio.

On a related question, does anyone have a favorite GA heavy airport to listen to? I usually land on KAPA (no pun intended ... okay maybe a little). The scanner feed has ground, tower and app/dep. So it gets a bit confusing sometimes, but it is rarely dead.

Sadly ... some of us are more than just that kind of nerd ...

Later at night when things slow down in the east, I listen to west coast stuff, or FedEx/UPS hubs (like Lousiville).

I find that I can both tune stuff out easier and also listen more attentively since I've started listening to Live ATC. Now I never have trouble with verbal instruction from my driving GPS (Siri), cuz I can repeat it verbatim...used to be that I had a hard time remembering what "she" told me to do.

Been there done that...

Having spent the morning blowing holes in the sky, left the airport and was happily driving down the centre line of the airport exit road until my wife asked why are we driving down the centre of the road.....:hairraise:

And then you push on the brake pedal to turn left...

Or even more embarrassing ...rolling down the window when on Walmart car park and shouting "clear prop" before hitting the start button.....

+1 on the LiveATC app. I can listen to our tower through our intranet at work, but usually leave LGB's south runway freq up when I'm at the kids baseball practice - the field is right under the downwind leg for 25L

Do you get to see the expressions on the other drivers' faces when they hear "King Air four tango kilo, cleared to land rwy 36" on the road? I'd be curious to know how puzzled they look. :)

I have had people next to me at lights ask if I'm listening to a police scanner. :dunno: I thought everyone listened to ATC feeds while they're driving around.

I like sitting in meetings (I work for LAX) with HHR's frequency running. We both have a 25 (although we have a right and left)

Funny to see the look on folks faces when they hear "Cessna 34 Bravo turning final for 25"

I used to listen to KJFK just for the yuks. The language barriers and the NYC senses of humor combined for an often-entertaining experience.

As a current controller myself, it's really weird hearing yourself on LiveATC. I did that a lot when I was in training.
