So I don't upgrade to 11. I follow the sage advice to wait until a few fixes are in. A few days ago that little red circle with 1 in it shows up on the Settings Icon. Then I get popups telling me I should update to 11.0.02. I dont do it for a couple of days. Then I decide to do it. Settings>General>Software Update. It says "IOS 10.3.3 Your software is up to date." So I go to the garage and grab a hammer and come back. Just as I'm ready to let it fly my wife grabs it says, "no, not yet, ask POA if they know WTF is going on. I check the FAR's and AIM first but no help there. So here I am. Why the F is it telling me I am uptodate with 10.3.3 after it told me I should get of my azz and update to 11.0.2?

Wow, your wife tells you to consult with POA before making any expensive decisions. Very wise! :D

So you checked the FARs and AIM but failed to check the NOTAMs. And you call yourself a pilot. Sheesh!

You have been de-selected for upgrade. Please report to central processing for re-education and re-orientation.

is it your personal device or a work managed device?

ah, ok. well in that case, definitely don't hammer it.
lol, sorry. ya couldnt get in a destroy the bosses sheet joke. I really thought you were gonna have some kinda of it is or isn't on a network solution

My iPhone and iPad show the upgrade available if I want to download it (which I do not), but no little red indicator number on the "Settings" icon that normally appears. In fact I wouldn't have even known there was an upgrade if you hadn't started this thread.

I just did the same thing you did - "Settings" then "General" then "Software Update" - and it came up with a longish blurb about the many virtues of this fantastic new addition to the pantheon of Operating Systems Silicon Valley has inflicted on mankind over the generations. That alone was enough to deter me from being too hasty to adopt it.

Have you tried re-booting the Mini?

I've 'powered it off' what they call a 'soft reboot' I think.

Did you have to redo all your settings, or did it leave things pretty much as you had it before.
I had a backup from the night before, but didn't need that and didn't have to redo anything. It even the Safari browser still had my pages open (PoA).

I've got the red circle with a 1 in it and periodic pop ups asking if I want to install now?? I say NO!!! And then it sends me to a page that says okay then enter your password so we can install it later tonight and I hit CANCEL. Only for the whole thing to repeat itself every couple days. I can only assume the nagging will grow more and more frequent until I finally relent and let the stupid thing update. By the way it wants to install 11.0.03.

So far the news on 11.0.3 is not good: https://www.gottabemobile.com/ios-11-problems-5-things-you-need-to-know/

This aligns with the generally bad reviews of 11 so far, and most talking heads say don't download any version yet as Apple still has bugs to squash. I'll remain at 10.3.3 until most of the reviews are favorable.

Interesting. Thanks for the head’s up.

I watch a variety of tech podcasts and none have come to that opinion to date, at least up to 11.0.2.

No major problems on the 5 iDevices we use up to 11.0.2. The UI improvements are nice, especially on the iPads.

That said, my iPhone 6+ does seem noticeably slower in some areas. Apps seem to take longer to launch, and the camera has a slight but annoying delay it did not have before. I don’t think Apple would be either malicious nor stupid enough to intentionally slow older devices down, and testing in general shows that not to be the case. I think a more charitable explanation is that the new iOs’s tend to be optimized for newer hardware, and the older phones and iPads perhaps don’t get the attention needed to run at max efficiency.

11.0.3 is showing as available for me now. It looks like probably by the time I was going to try 11.0.2 they had probably withdrawn it while slapping on some bandaids and getting .3 ready to release. Why it kept showing the 'update available' badge, little red circle, during this time and telling me I was 'up to date with 10.3.3 I guess was just a 'worm in the apple

I finally broke down and updated to 11.0.3 over the weekend on my iPad Air 2. What a freakin' cluster it’s been thus far. I have aps crashing all the time, Gmail, various news feeds, etc. hopefully Foreflight doesn’t.....

Upgraded to 11.0.3 on iPhone yesterday, smooth sailing and so far no issues.

Same here. Updated iPhone to 11.0.3 a couple days ago. No issues yet but I also updated all my apps at the same time that the App Store showed updated were available.

I blew off the upgrade because I was busy and wanted to do something else. It went away quite nicely. Came back later when I wasn't so busy and I installed it. That was the iPad, and it has worked just fine without any problems at all. Did the phone too, which everyone said would ruin it. Haven't even noticed a difference.

Here's how to get rid of the updat nag messages:

Go to Settings -> General -> Storage & iCloud Usage -> Manage Storage -> Used

In the list will be iOS something. Tap on that then tap delete update. This will delete the pending update and remove the nag messages.

I just updated to 11.0.3 for both i devices, Garmin Pilot said it’s all okay.

seems like I have shorter battery life on my iPhone 6s since upgrading to 11.0.3

Thanks, that works.

Went up to 11.0.3 a while ago.

Buggy. Laggy. Input and device freezes for minutes at a time. More battery. App crashy. Especially when switching Apps. Bluetooth audio freezes and resumes when switching apps. Bluetooth won’t stay connected to the car anymore for an entire drive anywhere anymore.

It’s the “total crap experience”. If I’m going to put up with that many bugs, I’ll do it on Android which is way ahead of this.

Both devices. iPhone 6+ and Mini 2.

It’s time to move to Android. Apple has jumped the shark. iOS 11 is a POS.

The new iPhone 8 is nothing but a 7S, way behind the competition — as is the X — which is not available yet, let alone priced over $1000. Samsung Note 8 beats the hell out of it if you’re going that high priced.

I’m out. The mini will probably stuck around for ForeFlight just long enough to set up a decent Android tablet replacement with Garmin or WingX.

ICloud is crap. iTunes is bigger crap. The “ecosystem” and OSs have gone to crap. (First time ever we told corporate users to avoid OSX update to High Sierra. It breaks all sorts of our stuff.)

They have no motivation to fix it until sales drop off.

I went thru a couple of screen/device lockups yesterday ... of course - JUST as I launched the SouthWest Airlines app to check in and try to get head of the B herd ... dammit!

and yeah, battery life is sucking big time. I have to plug in around dinner time now, and pre-upgrade usually had 30%ish available at bed time.

Anyone tried 11.1? Phone still at 10.3.3 and works fine.

I'm still on 10.3.1 on the phone, and it's starting to nag me to upgrade. I don't think so.

The old iPad is not capable of running 10, so it's on some version of 9. Laggy, and some apps no longer work.

Did the 11.0.3 upgrade to a iPad Mini 4. No issues that I can tell. Haven’t done the iPhones yet, they are both 5s models so I may wait a bit.
