Where is Henning?

I agree with you except that Henning disseminated a LOT of bad information here pretending to be the expert on almost every topic raised. "Information" that could potentially get someone hurt if they followed his advice. Aviation, along with many other topics discussed here, are too serious of businesses to have misinformation gurus such as Henning polluting the stream of good knowledge.

I for one will not mourn his departure.

I second that.

Some days you just get bored!
I still can't believe you had time to read all that BS....then cut and paste the links like we're gonna be so stupid.:yikes: :D

....and that's hours and hours of your life you ain't getting back.

Meh....I say let Henning outta the box.....it's kinda boring around here.:wonderwoman:

O.K. we've established from eye witnesse's he's a legitimate person, but what star formation is he from?

I had to chuckle at hindsight2020's post about asking an entitled woman how to spend your money all your life.

My Father would always say "people build their own prisons" and now I know what he meant.

True, he definitely has some unique perspective, and I maintain that added some of the color to the Blue board (bad advice to newbies notwithstanding).

Your Father was correct: some of us don't realize the foundation has been set and the bricks are being laid until the barred door slams shut. Have a pilot friend who just found that out a week ago. . .36 years of marriage down the drain.

I have to admit I've read a number of posts on this board over the years where my BS meter started going off a little bit, then I'd glance over at the poster and think to myself: "Ah, Henning posted this, that makes more sense."

One interesting thing is that he seems to be an expert at posting just enough information that he can somehow always defend his position. For someone with so many posts, that strikes me as a very impressive feat. It's typically pretty easy to find factual flaws with someone who throws a lot of stuff out there about every topic, and while I'm sure that's the case with some of his posts, it's impressive that it doesn't happen more often.

One other thing is that I found a few of his posts to be uncharacteristic of his typical posting. My first thought when I saw these was that he must've been hitting the scotch when he posted this one.

He also makes me wonder how much more interesting my life would be if I didn't decide to settle down.

If Henning were to write a book about his life based on everything he has told us about...I'd buy the book...and I bet it'd be a damn good read.

I've never met Henning, but I think he's getting a bum rap.

I think Henning merely has an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, which he satisfies by diving into every passing pursuit that he finds interesting. I know other people like that. They claim to have worked at so many jobs and to have learned so many things in the process that you think they're full of ****; but little by little, you realize that they're telling the truth.

They may be wrong about certain details because they didn't do the job in question long enough to really become a master at it, but they have enough exposure to make them interesting (and useful) as long as you don't assume that everything they say is inerrant.

In Henning's case, we do know as fact that he's licensed as both a ship's master and a commercial pilot (aviation) and holds numerous combined ratings and endorsements. His certificates are online for anyone who cares to look at them. Those accomplishments in themselves are impressive, especially since he never attended either an aviation or maritime college, according to his resume. He also seems to enjoy an excellent reputation and has excellent references in the maritime community.

I have no problem believing that Henning also leaped into other sundry pursuits from time to time, merely because they seemed interesting to him, with no intention of actually doing any of those things for a living. He makes most of his money commanding other people's yachts. That leaves plenty of opportunity in between missions to do other things simply to satisfy a personal craving for new and varied experiences.

I like people like Henning, to a point. They add color to our lives, unlike the neighbor accountant that obsesses about his lawn. I am guessing that Henning doesn't nag people about thier lawns or worries about how other people live their lives. That is a good thing.

I would rather hang out with him vs. Mr. Levy.

I agree with this 100%

Actually, all that seems totally legit for a childless non married man with an inclination for traveling and part time expat living. The dude is the dos equis guy. I kinda live vicariously through the guys exploits, even if in real life some of his accounts are probably closer to 10% truth accounts.

Beats spending all your money on what an entitled woman tells you to, asking permission to spend your own money like a chump all the days of your life with a tired idle threat of divorce and child support looming over you head. Prison walls are made of such choices.

Here's to the legend gracing us with his presence once again.

Henning was married at one point. His wife resorted to Yahoo Answers in an effort to figure out Where in The World is Henning:

I've hung out with Henning in Florida and NY. I met him on Long Island as he was docking an 80 ft. yacht he had just brought up from Florida. I asked if there was anything to eat onboard and he directed me to go to the galley.
In the galley I met a beautiful, half dressed girl making breakfast and coffee. During breakfast, I asked how long she had known Henning. She said they met in a bar a week ago and he said he could use a mate on the yacht for the trip north. I asked what she did for a living, she was a stewardess on corporate jets and had some time off.
He's his own man and answers to no one. I think that bothers some of you.

So you just walked up to a random multi million dollar yacht and asked for food?

My dads brother was in the marine industry, similar to Henning with a masters license and a long list of former employers. Hennings yarn reminds me of the stories that would be told whenever some of my uncles buddies from his fishing and tramp steamer days would get together.

The guy may or may not be for real, but he is certainly the only PoA'er whose post count goes down each time he posts here.

Not anymore apparently, seems to me he wanted to be banned for a while, sounds like he got his wish.

Probably have to be self published. Pretty easy to just string together all the posts here and ship it to Amazon as a e-book. The chapter organization might be a bit incoherent. :D

Cheers

Sounds like a bit from Top Gear when they do the "Some say..." about the stig !!!!

Oh, his posts were full of it, and he didn't let facts sway him in the face of higher truths; I would tend to skip past his stuff, one I figured out he was all transmit, and no receive. But I didn't mind him posting, and sometimes he was weirdly entertaining. . .I must have found some of his writing worth my time. I never put him on ignore, like Cuervo, and those sorts.

Your Father was correct: some of us don't realize the foundation has been set and the bricks are being laid until the barred door slams shut. Have a pilot friend who just found that out a week ago. . .36 years of marriage down the drain.

That's sad. All that work and family and probably half his money for some new boy toy to enjoy while he pokes his ex-wife. Life sure ain't fair.

Another one of my personal favorites:

"You've never really met your wife until you meet her in divorce court." :yesnod:

I, in fact, do not know where Henning is.

Nah...he was just that bored. It'll likely be a long time before someone else tops 60,000 posts like Henning had. Even Ron, who was quite a prolific poster, only had 30k ish before he threw his hissy fit and stomped out of the sandbox.

Even Nate has only 28,000...but I'd bet that Nate has typed twice as many words here as Henning...hell, maybe four times! :goofy:

:)

It's a curse having grown up attending a school that mandated significant reading and writing. A whole lot of writing.

Keep in mind that our society thinks a website named "Reddit" that created a meme of "TL;DR" is all quite normal.

Sound bites are in. Newspapers are dead.

The same can be said for many other posters, including some who seem to be revered on this board (and who have posted critical comments in this thread).

The reality is that if someone doesn't think through and verify information across multiple sources, he or she is probably going to end up in trouble someday because of it, with or without any input from Henning. Yes, I know that many people don't do that. It's still not Henning's fault.

In my opinion, Henning's list of exploits are a stretch even for a single guy who likes to travel, but I suspect that much of his story is possible for such a person of his age. The information in his posts often appear to be correct, but are just as often incomplete. His collective works seem to be a hundred miles wide and an inch deep. Regardless of how he acquires the knowledge behind his posts, the fact that he finds the time to acquire it and become such a prolific poster while presumably working enough to fund his lifestyle (or being smart enough to have someone else fund it) is at least a little bit impressive. It is all somewhat hard--but not impossible--to believe.

I have met Henning. Good guy.

Also, this thread violates the RoC.

I've been around a lot of bull**** artists in my life, but I've never seen someone pile it any higher or deeper than he did. And that's before the delusion of speaking for God.

How do you know it's a delusion?

Just in the Judeo-Christian tradition, God is recorded as having inspired the speech of an abandoned baby, several kings, multiple shepherds, a carpenter, several fishermen, a tentmaker, a physician, a tax collector, and a donkey. So why not Henning?
