I got my license on 3/4/13. Do I need a flight review now, or am I good until 3/31/15? I am pretty sure it is good though 3/31... right?

31st. 61.56(c).

I feel like the feds chose the most obtuse way to have written the temporal part of that reg. :)

The key is, take a day (3/31/2015) and look backwards 24 months to the beginning of the month (3/1/2013) -- if you passed a checkride or completed a FR in that time period, you're good to go.

"Obtuse" is in the eye of the beholder. I think your "key" is making it far more difficult than it is.

Try this version of what you wrote:

Personally I never found the idea that we count whole months (January, February, March) rather than the specific day of the month (January 3, February 16, March 23) in the least bit difficult to understand. Maybe it's just because I am bad at numbers so removing them from the equation makes it super easy. Maybe one person's "key" is another person's "lock."

You got your license in March 2013. You are good throughout March 2015. Yep, it really is that simple.

Edited to make it even simpler ;)

As pointed out, you're good through the last day of the month. You can squeeze 25 months out by doing your BFR on 4/1/15 and your next on 5/1/17. I've done that with medicals a few times...scheduled my next appointment before leaving the current one so I was on their calendar.

By the end of this month, March 31st 2015

Just to confirm, Getting a new rating starts the 2 year process over correct?

It could be worse. For parachute reserves the FAA chooses 180 days. Gotta figure out how many days in a month etc.....
