When flying was civilized....

My Aunt Lucy would fly down from Quebec, Canada to JFK, then take the NY Transit helicopter to Newark (did it stop at the Pan am building?)

Everyone was dressed in finery, smoking, and "rich."

Wow. BOAC, Pan Am. Amazing how things have changed.

Great pics and info. When we were kids, we used to go to the outdoor rooftop observation deck at the intl arrivals terminal and just stand there for hours watching the ops. Oh man, the noise, the smell of the kerosene, we would all fantasize about being pilots or passengers going all over the world from NY. When we got our drivers licenses, we could drive right up to the areas adjacent to the thresholds on 22 and 31 and just hangout under the approaches with the arrivals screaming in overhead. It was always a mix of props, turboprops and turbines. The most awesome planes were the connies..beautiful and a special deep rumble.

Great reminder of the days when the planes and the stewardesses were all beautiful and the airport restaurants were among the best places in town.

"I'm Kelly - Fly Me!"

The golden age still exists - it's called charter (with the right charter company). And you have to have the money to enjoy it, now just as then.
