I have never tried it, but that is exactly what the inverted V scan is all about.
I've tried the inverted V (gave it up because it wasn't "comfortable" for me in the sense that it fit my mental patterns). It woks well for straight and level flight and for some pilots does a pretty good job of (a) and (b), so long as one understands that one needs to bring other instruments into the scan to satisfy (c) (Rod Machado's instrument book does a very good job talking about the cross-check to detect and resolve errors in terms of scanning instruments that provide similar information using different systems).

But it is a good way of recognizing that scans do not have to fit into any particular mold and some creativity can be in order.
