After the Blizzard of '09 I ventured out to the hanger to assess the situation. I find a snow drift up and including the door handle and extending into the middle of the alley! :yikes: I grabbed my 30 year old Toro single stage, but t

What snow blowers do you guys & gals use?

I need one I can lift into the truck!

I have a 8HP 24" two-stage Toro. I plowed through a couple 3.5 ft drifts and it didn't even slow down. Earlier this morning I was actually snow blowing the street as there were some really bad parts that even 4x4s were managing to get stuck in. It'll drive through anything without getting stuck provided you have the auger spinning.

You'd have to be rather strong to lift it into a truck by yourself - but ramps make it easy. If you really wanted it to be mobile though and don't plan on snow blowing the streets - Jason's model above would be a lot easier to move around.

The larger two-stages will basically drive through anything. The smaller single stages are a LOT easier to handle (lighter) and will likely blow about any snow we get around around here. I did help a guy out that had a single stage Toro and was heaving issues with a high drifted area (few feet of snow).

We have self shoveling snow, It just runs down the storm drains.
Seems I recall that a few years ago your "snow" didn't run anywhere and you ended up with a several inch coat of solid ice everywhere. Did I dream this up?

Yep....... It rains all the time in the northwest. :)

Ya got me, we had frozen snow on the ground from 15 Dec 08 to 13 Jan 09.

That was the longest I have seen snow stay around since 74 when we got here.

Just started using it this weekend. Best I've ever used.

You can borrow mine if you'd like to try before you buy.

EDIT: carry-out only. Not to be combined with any other offers. Delivery charges may apply. Expires December 2009.

Come one over, we can get Jesse and you to do a side by side demonstration!

That is the one I was looking at, Scott has one also. I really like the snout adjuster!

Here's my snowblower ('cept I have a cab with heat). Unfortunately I keep it at home and usually end up using a walk behind I keep in the hangar to remove snow at the airport

I have a snowblower named Kurt who shows up with a big pickup truck with a blade!

Cheapie. MTD 2P5. 5 hp, One stage, push type. Light enough for one to put in the back of the Honda.

I've only used it three times since new, but in that time I'd say that the chute adjust was worth every penny.

The offer is on the table. You're welcome to come by and pick it up if you'd like to give it a run.

I just bought chains for it today, and probably will get new tires here in the next couple of days, and I should be good for another couple years of winter. :)

The tractor mounted blower I have has a hydraulic rotator for the chute but the deflector on the chute is strictly manual and I've been thinking of adding an electric actuator for that since it really helps if you can tip it up and down when the wind's blowing hard.

A big Craftsman. Heavy as sin. It's quite a workout in anything more than 6". Frankly, around here, I'd just as soon pay per plow and ditch it. I only use it maybe 3 times a year and the rest of the time it clutters the garage.

I use a Toro 8hp 28" snowblower. I've only put in
my SUV a couple of times, and used a ramp to run it
up into my small SUV.

When I had a Toro 521 it was quite easy to get into my SUV.
But it won't throw snow quite as far as easily as the Toro I
have now.

I am an Ariens man too. Well made Wisconsin product I might add. I would be a wreck about now if it weren't for this puppy:

Heck....It even has hand warmers!

Those handwarmers are awesome, aren't they? I have a 300' lane, and my Ariens dispatched the snow with no problem today.

Last year I bought the Ariens, but since all the neighbors had a guy come to plow each home, I bought into that. $35 a pop. I think I ended up paying over $800 last year. Screw that - that's a lot of flying $$, so my Ariens is doing more than clean up work this year - it's doing the whole thing. And I get a great workout to boot.

Bought a new Deere lawn tractor this year. Snowthrower attachment was $1100. The guy across the street from me does my ~220' driveway with his skidloader for $35. I passed on the snowthrower.

12 old horse powers; definitely not liftable into the Chevy S-10. But the Hangar Association has purchased a snow blower for communal use.

wan we liveeed in Bang-gor....we had a 190 foot driveway and an 18 hp Case hydraulic tractor. It had a five foot snowscrew on the front and would clean our drive clean off in two passes.

Good thing, too, it drifted over every 12 hours or so.......

Yea, me too when I get land. There's something sinfully satisfying about the ability to chip the too close neighbors house into splinters and go "oops sorry dude, guess you'll have to move further away now."

This cold!

Funny how the temp in that cartoon is exactly what it was here this morning.

I've owned or had the use of three Ariens over the years. My sincere complements to the good folks in Brillion.... these machines are great!

Another vote for Ariens. I have an 8 HP 2-stage and yesterday it really proved its worth. Good product and dealer support, too.

The trusty Kansas wind works for me. On our honeymoon many years ago we stayed at the family cabin at Lake Wilson KS. The first night in blinding snow we got stuck in a drift on the drive. The next morning every bit of snow had blown away, probably to Okla.

Got a 5hp Craftsman 2 stroke single stage of indeterminate age. It has electric (plug-in 110V) start and wouldn't be hard to lift into a truck.

Works pretty well when it works - I can jam it into the plow piles and work them down...

I should probably fix it before winter gets here.

Oh, wait. Winter is here already. @#*&^%$*

wan we liveeed in Bang-gor...........

Bruce: I caught the "Bang-gor." For those who don't know, it's the most mispronounced city name in the U.S.; and everyone claims to be saying it
correctly.

Then there's the old story: (Loosely ----- )

Fellow out of State: "Nice meeting you; where you from?"
Maine person: "Maine."
FooS: "Nice; what part?"
MP: "Northern part."
FooS: "I once had a girl friend from up there."
MP: "Bang-grrr?"
FooS: "Nah; didn't know 'er that well."

:o)

I think Pierre, SD, even being the capital of SD, has got to rank right up there in mispronounced names ... no, it's NOT French! ... rhymes with deer. OK, maybe it WAS french, but not any more.

That's just as (in)valid as Springfield saying that their town is pronounced "Smith". Sorry, but it doesn't fly with me. If they want it pronounced Peer, than name it that!:mad3:

Oh, and to answer the original question, I have Mike Andrew's old single-stage Toro snowblower. Just about time to bring it out for the season. It would be possible to load it in the back of a truck, but I'd want a ramp to do it.

one time i was up at leahs folks for new years and it was snowing. had about 2 inches on the drive and company coming over so we went outside to clean it off. leah and i grabbed shovels, jim went for the snowblower. i think it was the first time he had tried to use the snowblower that year. couldn't get it started. did a lot of cussing and fussing. i left him a one snowblower wide strip to blow away once he finally got it started and went back inside where it was warm.
