So for the past few weeks I been hearing a local Dodge dealership offering Ram Diesels that don't need hippie juice. The ad talks about some northern pessure to make all trucks use hippie juice.

I've seen signs at gas stations which state that they don't sale hippie juice. Some people have even come up to me and ask why do I drive a northerner hippie juice car.

So what in the world is hippie juice? E85? Low Sulfur Diesel?

It seems like such a negative thing especially in the rural parts of the state.

best i can tell it's water, pink lemonade mix, a strawberry, vodka, triple sec, and rum.

no idea why you want to put that in your car.

Best I can figure is they're talking about alcohol in gasoline.

What kind of car do you drive?

I now drive a '00 Subaru Forester with a kayak rack. Thats what always confuses me when I hear that statement from people. The car takes normal gasoline.

My 4x4 Montero I talked to you about at Gastons decide to die later that month.

Well its either that or put lead back into gasoline. I'm to young to remember leaded gasoline. I was 5 when it was banned.

I've heard you get better power and compression with leaded gas then the new stuff. My dad says the new gasoline is horrible on 2-stoke engines.

Maybe they are talking about the injected liquid in the new diesel trucks?
This stuff

You get better power with higher octane if you advance the crap out of the timing. If you don't mess with that, you get WORSE behavior. TEL is one way to increase octane. There are others.

You don't get better compression on an engine by putting different fuel in it. There are several types of compression, but they are all driven by the engine geometry and valve timing. And static compression has steadily raised with time. It's not hard to find a 10:1 production engine. In the 50's, that was 7:1.

Most cars don't have nor need adjustible timing anymore.

E85 really has less energy per unit volume. But it's much more available in the Corn Belt and in the South than elsewhere. It's next to impossible to find on the west coast. Kinda strange to call that "hippie juice;" it's being pushed by the corn lobby, hardly a bunch of hippies.

Well its either that or put lead back into gasoline.

Not at all true. Ethanol is in gasoline, principally, because the Archer Daniels Midland company is a very effective at lobbying for mandatory use of ethanol from corn. The ethanol is also a modestly-effective "oxygenate," but its value to our gasoline is essentially nothing. All it does is (1) consume enough of the corn crop to drive the cost of cattle feeding through the roof, (2) require that we burn a motor fuel which has less energy per unit, but costs more and causes more fuel system issues.

Ethanol was put in in place of MTBE, which is mighty nasty stuff if spilled. But, we'd be much better off without ethanol from corn.

It's not so much leaded, as it is high octane, but modern auto engines with precise electronic injection and ignition control are so vastly better at using fuel than the old "muscle" cars used to be, we're much better-off now. Cars are faster, last longer and burn less fuel than ever before. In addition, because the cars don't require lead, we also avoid the problems (and they are many ) associated with lead deposits in car engines.

most likely they're talking bout home brew bio-diesel. I tinker with ovw's and constantly have one or two old rabbit diesels for sale. i thought hippies were extinct before i started advertising old vw's.

Then you need to pay a visit to Eurkea Springs, AR

What is MTBE ?

Neither is true.

Hippies don't die, they just smell that way.

Now this guy's approach to increasing the efficiency of turbocharged engine might have real merit....

The two people I know who made their own biodiesel are about the furthest thing from hippies that I can think of. I'm closer to being a hippie.

Hippie Juice is the water in a bong. You drink it after smoking pot. Geez guys, do I have to tell you guys everything?

I have a feeling the Colorado tourism board is smiling. :)

Along with all the 7-11's !! They're maxing out their "munchies" aisles as we speak.

@ArFlyer...I know (in the biblical sense) what "hippie hay" is but I can't help you with "hippie juice".

Yep. Dodge (er, I mean "Ram") was granted an exemption from being forced to use urea injection until the 2013 model year.

Why can't I just pee into my fuel tank? You get urea and water injection.

Ding Ding, we have a winner!:D this caustic liquid is poured into a SEPARATE tank next to the fuel tanks on newer trucks. It's purpose is to "clean" the exhaust system. :mad2: it's about $10.00 per gallon and a Ford truck holds 5 gallons and will last 7000+ miles. We had a customer pour it into his fuel tank and it trashed the fuel system, $12,000.00 estimated repair!:yikes::yikes: It's basically an EPA mandate on all new diesel trucks including the big boys.

Patchouli oil? I hear it only runs in Subaru's, and Volvos without convertible hardtops.

Oh yeah, and in Trabants.
