No Taylorcraft, Pietenpol, or Fairchild! lol

No Mooneys listed? What the...

I've got an M20E.

M20C and she has been a great plane. Look forward to the next flight all the time, which will be this weekend to the Florida Keys.

Maybe just change the title of the poll to: "What kind of Cherokee do you own?" :D

Lotta freaking "other"....what the heck are they?

Shoulda latched the canopy for this photo but, oh well....it's my baby. Soon to be sporting about 30 more HP!

I got my ppl three years ago. I first bought a 150 sold it six months later after flying it 100hrs.
I bought a c177b for an economical plane.
Then I wanted my high performance complex so I purchased a North American snj5.

Now I want my multi so I purchased a Douglas C-53 (DC3). It's a nice plane. I can take 19 of my friends to go for that $1000 hamburger :)

My next plane is a difficult choice. Part of me wants a new faster plane so I'm looking at a Cessna 400.
Although the fun side of me wants to get a BAC Strikemaster or a L39. Too many planes too many choices.

But at the moment three planes are enough. With what I paid just for the insurance on the dc3 this year I could have bought another c150.

Planes are fun. Buy what you can afford to fly, and fly it!

OK................. You win..............;).......

Cherokee 180...when I started looking, I thought I should get an older Bo or a Mooney, something to "grow" into, but I am still a low time pilot and when I brought it in yesterday on the shorter 18 runway at 3GM with gusting bouncing winds and still made a decent landing...I knew I had chosen right!

Twin Comanche.
Best combination of Speed, fuel burn, and useful load based on the requirements (I thought I needed) at the time. Now I could easily go with a much smaller aircraft.

After many years of owning certificated planes, we went over to the Dark Side and bought a Van's RV-8A in 2013.

Jay, that must be an absolute hoot to fly! Congrats!

Other Mooney, M20J 201.

Four cylinder economy, six cylinder speed. Hella stout. I went with the J because of the faster longer airframe and standard 6-pack panel. The plane suits my small family of three quite well.

Cessna other? 170's, 180's, 185's, 195's, 210's, 205's, 206's, 400's, ALL the twins! Hardly a comprehensive list even for just the pistons.

My arrow is my first and current plane. I have had it for 3 years and cant imagine traveling anywhere in anything else (car or airlines).

Yea, poll could be 10 pages long, surprised no one complained that that I didn't include a Wilga or Storch LOL.

Yeah but when are you going to actually FLY your DC-3??? Based on Daniel's FB posts, sounds like it has been in maintenance since you bought it.

How come there are like three variants of Cherokees but only one Arrow?

A Flight Design CTLSi with Dynon Skyview and Garmin 796 GPS

Flying the -8 is the most fun I've ever had with my clothes on! :)

Best of all -- it gets better mileage than my Ford F-150. We fly twice as often, because it costs 50% less to operate.

Experimental Vans RV-6.

Owned a Cherokee 140 for nearly ten years, but got tired of flying cross country at 125mph & 8+ GPH. Now I can do all my own maintenance, repairs & custom mods and go nearly 200mph on the same fuel burn... and take it into places I'd never dare take the Cherokee.

Socata TB9 Tampico

What engine is in the Tampico and what speeds do you see at what fuel burn? I have a friend and sometimes POAer who flies a Trinnie, its fast comfy but sucks fuel and is a runway hog. There used to be a Tobago on the rental line at PNE. Word was it was a slow fuel sucking runway hog. They sure are ergonomically designed though. Curious what your experience is.

Adopt me. I'll clean dog poop out of the yard, do the yardwork, clean the kitchen, chauffer anyone anywhere....

No Aztec? I'm hurt. :(

I bought the Aztruck mostly because it was there and the price was right. I wanted a de-iced twin, but at the time didn't have much opinion on Aztec/310/Baron. It proved to be a good choice in load hauling, forgiving nature, and overall reliability.

Since I do not own the 310, it doesn't count.

Wanted lots of room, two doors and a low wing (for pattern visibility). Couldn't find a Sundowner, Sierra, or 112, but two Cardinals (a fixed gear and a swing gear) were available locally. The 177 is the only high wing I considered because the visibility is fine due to the set back wing.

Both planes were in approximately the same shape and cost about the same. I chose the fixed gear for economical reasons - I don't fly enough to warrant the added expense of the RG.

For the owners and former owners on this forum. What type of plane did you own or do you currently own? Not talking rental's here but ownership. After voting tell us why you chose that plane.
Your poll doesn't accommodate people who own more than one aircraft.

1974 177B
Didn't want an RG, but wanted two doors and the widest cabin I could get while still be SOMEWHAT economical....

It also shows bias towards Baron owners and against 310 and Aztec owners. :(

182. Ran into guys that wanted another co-owner that could get along. They'd already lost two "definitely in" co-owners back at the purchase date. One didn't like the aircraft model choice, the other just couldn't cough up the money. No hard feelings but they ended up two co-owners when they originally wanted four.

Met 'em, sat down to talk turkey, stewed over it for months, no pressure at all. Wife told me to get my butt on with it. Ha.

Gained two new lifelong friends, along with their families, and the airplane is the quintessential "doesn't do anything great, but does a little bit of everything right" airplane.

Couldn't be happier. Well, we do need an IFR GPS... But that's just a matter of eventually whipping out the checkbook and being seen at the ER for the chunk Garmin will take out of my ass. ;)

That chunk ain't gonna get smaller, or are you waiting for your ass to get bigger? ;)

DC-3 will be flying before the end of July 2014!
It's been down for an engine overhaul, and then a windstorm knocked the control locks off the elevators. So we had to find new elevators and get them covered. Since Douglas (Boeing now) is not making new ones we had to search and get them certified and recovered. I received a phone call they will be done this week. I called the mechanic and next Monday he will install them. All it takes is a bit of $$ which I have spent.
So look for it in the skies soon!

While I appreciate the pep talk, I haven't had time lately with the new job. Phone cutover to new carrier is Friday. Then rollout of multiple servers for a new product. Luckily, said stupidity will pay for said GPS. :)

Plus my marinated tri-tip roast on the grill I'm cooking up for fajitas and sandwiches and what-not, is a little fattier than anticipated, and I'm playing grill firefighter right now at 23:00. Ha. :)
