What do you listen to??

Anybody know of a better way to control the XM volume on a GNS530? Using the up/down arrow moves the volume too much; either too soft or TOO LOUD with one click. Really need an old fashion volume pot.

What next, an HD projector outside the plane to cast it on the clouds while IFR?
Great idea. I will be like the big air carriers, inflight movies and everything. Just do not know where to store the flight attendant and cart on take off and landing. You know not much space in the 182.

Just two questions: where can I get one and do you think the FAA will have a problem with me mounting it on my wing!:goofy:

Add some MFD features to display as well. If you can mount a GoPro, why not a projector. Might have to mount in wing.

You may also have to take on the roll of flight attendant/pilot.

When you are on a long trip, what's in your music system? We like to keep some classical music low in the background. It seems to fit really well with flying and enjoying the scenery below.

Nothing except ATC, if applicable. I never cared to have music or anything else in the background. I'm just happy to be flying and having the loud engine/prop noise attenuated by my ANR headset.

Of Course D.W. has to watch music videos while he is flying.

Fractal projection on the windscreen, Dark side of the Moon in the headset...;)

Something we used to do while sailing was to blast the pirates of the caribbean sound track in the boat when the wind picks up. makes the experience feel epic

We did charters where the sound track was porno music... bow bopba ba baow...:rofl::rofl:;)

The roar of the engine, the flow of the slipstream, and the still small voice.

I did a quick Google search, that particular track is from gay porn.

You bet, that too, but mostly straight. My buddies dad owned Video X and used to charter the schooners to shoot on. The Pirate Porn series was my idea offered up pool side at his house when he was gonna go scout locations.:D Shoot, I'm a reluctant heterosexual, if I could have gotten into the homosexual thing I could have lived the life of a billionaire the last 20 years lol.

We have now found the one thing Henning hasn't done. ;)

West Side!

Me myself I listen to ATC. :)

Actually East Bay and North Bay representing there!

(Too $hort and Spice 1 are from Oakland. E 40 is from Vallejo.)

Too painful. I will stick with my hairy legs.

My Sister may have her Epilady from years ago in my parents basement. It's yours for the cost of shipping and handling . It just grabs on to hundreds of hairs at once, and plucks them out down to the root. I am traumatized from that thing. As a teenager, she shoved it in my armpit while I was sleeping.

Sac Arrow, would you call this gangster rap?... :) (ROFL!)

[Edit: Warning, it's rap... so language... of course...]

And "high-tech" music for your next flight...

I told you, QUIT posting vids of me in the kitchen!

No dice, my legs are staying hairy especially considering it is one of the few areas that I can still depend on to grow hair.

In between position reports I listen to ham radio bands in HF. Sometimes I make a CQ call and had friendly chats with other ham operators. It is quite pleasing and keeps you from falling asleep.

XM usually comedy when I'm alone, and 80's or country if I have a co-pilot.:D

??? Thought I said dead ADF. And the dead one can't be used to listen to ball games when flying across the state.

No but a crippled one can. Mine can receive the Armstrong and Getty talk show but it can't actually point me to an ADF station.

If you can do that you are not in compliance with regulations should you get ramped. If a piece of equipment installed does not function, if it is allowed to remain so it must be properly 'Inop'ed by placquard and securing the breaker.

How do you know it isn't?

Flying for me is more about the journey than the destination, whereas for my beautiful bride it is more about the destination. So I need destinations that are bearable to me and she needs something on the journey to make it bearable for her. Thus, the intercom is usually in pilot isolation mode for me (almost always IFR) and our marriage has been saved from the ravages of years of my fanatical obsession with the craft of flying by the availability of Dr. Laura on XM for her.

If you can listen to it the breaker/power isn't secured, it should not be able to be turned on.

Where in 91.213 does it say to secure the breaker/power?

could probably project on the back of the prop arc if you were in a single....

Someone made a laser gyro that did that for a while, if I remember correctly. Gave a big artificial horizon by using the prop as a "screen".

So if your engine quits, you're F'd then?

I was wondering the same thing. The inop ADFs in our planes are placarded, but I don't recall any pulled breakers.

Our avionics folks around here won't placard unless its really dead or disabled. The pulled and wrapped breaker is enough if you have that style breaker. Otherwise they'll truly disconnect.

Too many people putting INOP placards on ADFs just so IR candidates don't have to utilize them, I suspect.

I realize I am a little late coming into this, but its the Top Gun soundtrack for me! Seriously I cant believe I'm the first to mention it! haha I also have the Iron Eagle soundtrack and many other 80's metal/rock songs that just seem made for a flying soundtrack. I've now made a playlist on my iPod just for flying.

I am one of those that have to be able to hear my engine and surroundings though as well. I use a headset with an aux-input that is adjustable in both earsets for how much music comes through compared to the Com Radios. As soon as I get in high traffic/busy ATC areas the music goes off.
