What a stupid design.

Didn't think about it until I got it home. Why would they put the screws and the post on the same side?

It limits the available range of motion and it's going to make this somewhat of a hassle to figure out how to tighten

Looks like it was designed to be tightened on something pretty thin. If so, would the screws be low enough to work?

It was made to work with a longer "short arm"

If they put the screws on the other side, it would work with every arm. But I'm just going to cut the screws down so that they go all the way to the surface

I'm thinking this is a twisted joke that Troy has pranked you with

Why not drill /tap holes in the udder side?

Or rotate the wing nut tighten thing so the wing nut is to the front or back?

The arm is a split down the middle so everything twist 360 degrees but it only swivels 180 parallel to the wing nut. I can make it work but this could have been a lot better thought out

You could probably go to ram parts and build something similar, or at least get a longer arm.

Does the center arm rotate? Can you rotate the large knob to the back?

I can but then I lose any forward and backward swivel on the arm it only goes side to side since it's a split

Why not just rotate the knob 90°? Or you can cut the screws and use a spacer when required.

Remove the iPad mount, install the bracket, then replace the iPad mount. The bracket never leaves the yoke rod. If you want to take the mount with you, remove it with the big knob.

I had a similar issue. Ended up buying the split arm that twists in the middle so that I could get a better range of motion out of one end while addressing the constraints on the other end. Seemed a clunky solution, but it was the only one I could find.

I'm pretty sure RAM makes a longer arm, for a handsome fee.
You probably need to spend more money on aviation anyway. :D

If this is a yoke mount for AA5, there are better solutions.

Not yoke. Yoke has the 560. This is going on the glare shield

Ah h3ll, just invert it and bolt it on to the front rail of the canopy. From what we've heard, you're never gonna close that thing all the way anyway.

This is what I was going to say.

Except I was gonna say it like... unscrew your clamp holding those big black balls so you can get it off then do your screwin' and replace the ball clampy thingy.

Remove screws; discard.
Acquire 2 x 12" baling wire ("bw").
Holding clamp onto clampee, wrap bw around each side of clamp twice.
Using Harbor Freight vicegrips, twist til snug.

You cut cut/grind a U-shape where it's hitting the posts of the welded ball(s) and stopping you from getting the correct angle.

cut them or replace bolts with shorter ones
That's what I am going to do. I think it will work fine.
Silly that I should to have to break a product to make it work as intended.

Will it be blocking that "NO HOLD" sticker on the glare shield? Or did the previous owner conveniently remove it for you?

Umm yeah, this.

That mount is not designed to be attached with the arm on. You attach it then put the arm on.

My advice will differ slightly. Take all your RAM mounts that *almost* work and put them in a box. Buy yourself a mygoflight mount that fits your needs. When you see how inferior the RAM mounts are in every category you will be inclined to donate the box to McDonald's for happy meal toys.

No I don't work for mygoflight or get commissions. I balked at the cost for quite a while before getting frustrated so much with my RAM mounts that I bit the bullet and got the yoke mount. Liked it so much I bought another panel mount.
