I cant find the original thread, but I'm positive it was discussed here (or maybe it was the purple board)...

The short and sweet: Cadet was standing in the pickup area at KIAH when Patti LaBelle's entourage came through. They parked their luggage too close to him, then the body guards jumped said cadet when Patti allegedly instructed them to move him away from her luggage.

Cops show up, cadet goes to ER with concussion. Cops take Patti's peeps statements and then pose for pics with her, then one of the officers allegedly calls West Point and alleges cadet started altercation and was drunk.

Well.. turns out cadet was already on probation/suspended separation, so he gets the boot. Even when the truth (and video) comes out, USMA stood by the decision, calling it an honor code violation (I'm guessing the drinking aspect was the clincher). He was assigned as an enlisted man and scheduled to be deployed into combat for a year at which time he could reapply to rejoin the cadet corp.

That decision was overturned on mandatory review, and he will be returning to the cadet corp, and allowed to graduate this fall.... provided he keeps it clean.

Incidentally, LaBelle's staff have been charged with assault.

Wow, from the video, it appears the cadet was holding his cell phone in his right hand and moving away from the luggage when thug 1 pushed him from the cadet's 3-4 o'clock position. It looks like a good case for assault considering thug 1, thug 2 and a thugette push the cadets head into the concrete pillar. I hope the charges stick.

I thought it was Thug 1 and Thugette 2 (Norma Harris, 63)!

I wonder how LeBelle's entourage would have reacted if the cadet had been in uniform?

I really don't understand why people immediately resort to violence. Couldn't they just have asked the guy to move?

Glad it worked out for the kid.

The fact that he was temporarily kicked out out of the academy may be to his advantage if he wins a lawsuit against her. It should greatly increase the damages as it really disrupted his life. I am disappointed but not surprised that the police immediately took sides without performing a proper investigation.

If they said anything at all before they had at him, it was probably not a request, and not in a courteous manner. My take on the tape is that words were exchanged. The cadet's verbal response would have been reasonable, as in "f**k you", having some lout come out of nowhere telling him to move (in harsh words and tone). That's when the pushing started.

It's fairly common with these celebrity security-goons- they seem to have two modes: rude and violent. Mind you, they often have to deal with pushy, crazy, and often dangerous fans... but it's no excuse. And those they protect have a responsibility to keep things civil when possible.

I've seen both approaches, having found myself, at work, waiting in offstage corridors at arenas, etc. to go tear down a show- usually the crew gets word that The Big Star(s) are about to come through, and we all make a wide path and don't bother them (stagehands don't gush over celebs). But sometimes there's a lack of coordination, and a few people may have to be asked to step back or whatever. "Excuse us, guys, can you give (Big Star) some room?" works very well if said loudly enough. We're ladies and gentlemen... hell, it's not like we're roadies, LOL. Saw a singer's bodyguard elbow-check one of our guys once as the entourage came through, without a word, while his back was turned... almost knocked him down. It was outrageous.

It's nice to be important, but it's important to be nice...:nono:

Am I supposed to know who Patti Labelle is?

Has been, old fat lady. Basically.

I hope these goons get prosecuted for assault, and battery. Maybe it should be a hate crime too. He should also sue Labelle, and really make it interesting.

I still remember asking my eight grade French teacher what "coucher" means.
I still remember my HS French teacher asking what's wrong with the phrase "Voulez-vous coucher avec moi, ce soir?"
(Hint: you're either being pretty formal for someone you expect to do that with, or you're asking a group of people!:yikes:)
