Were those gunshots?

You conveniently ignored "small arsenal". And if you want to pick nits, you can buy a lot of smoke detectors at Walmart for $189...and mitigate a hazard much more likely to result in loss of life or property than the oft-ballyhooed home invaders supposedly roaming the country.

Trapper John

Who ever said a "small arsenal" was required for home defense?

"Arsenal" is one of those loaded words -- it implies overkill.

Besides -- firearms serve many more uses than just home defense.

They just happen to work well in that situation as well.

And the situation is not as far fetched as you imply.

Here's some 3 year old news from a source that's not exactly pushing gun ownership: http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2006-06-07-home-invasions_x.htm

Ok if you say so. Just don't come crying to us if you get shot. We'll just say "I told you so."

A better job doesn't do squat good if they shoot you. My and your definitions of a better part of town are somewhat divergent.

In the meantime until you successfully disprove the hooligan magnet theory, if you move near me you're a nice guy and everything but I'm rolling out right then. No offense...

No no, you misunderstood. I have a decent job, so I can't leave. Also - I seriously live in an area of Albuquerque where there is like near 0 crime. This guy ran to this neighborhood and holed up. FWIW, the crime didn't happen here.

Interesting how the article mentions again and again that the primary targets of home invasions are drug dealers, huh?

Trapper John

You found the bias! Bravo!

(It's USA Today, after all...)

Reported home invasions are different than perceived or thwarted.

And all the statistical evidence is worth a subscription to US Today when you hear someone outside or inside at 2 AM.

I had no such incidents in 16 years in Lancaster County.

We've had three in 7 years in rural Western Pennsylvania.

I only reported one, as there were shots fired.

3 hours later, PSP shows up to take my statement.

Yeah, I'll keep my guns....

New email at work: Apparently our 4th street office is under lockdown due to police activity. I hope its this guy and not something else....

I think my favorite part is the font :D

And now; a third incident. :skeptical:

Nick,
Your learning curve seems to be a little flat. :nono:
Let me help you out here a bit:
MOVE!
NOW!

If that's not working; LEAVE TOWN.

FLEE!!!

But don't move near me! I don't need Nick's track record in MY neighborhood... ;)

I like my arsenal.:cool2:

I like to clean my arsenal.

I like to look at and admire the engineering of the arsenal.

In fact -- I like to carry the arsenal around.:happydance:

I shoot each and every one frequently at a variety of paper and in-season live targets. :target:

THE PREVIOUS UNPAID ANNOUNCEMENT WAS BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE SECOND AMENDMENT

PS: If some lowlife chooses to enter where unbidden, he may meet my arsenal. And togther we will wait the normal 20-45 minutes before the Pennsylvania State Police happen to join us.

I grew up on a cattle ranch and have ridden horses since I was 3.

I think I can recognize when a horse is attacking me. Particularly when the owner is beating it with a rope.

Hunh?

Was he riding the horse?

FWIW: A horse has to be trained to "trample" people. They have an aversion to it and will naturally avoid running over someone. They will run around you even if it looks like the horse is coming "right at you."

If a horse wants to mess with you he'll be docile until you get close, then will slowly show you his hindquarters.

(All rules are broken in a herd stampede, but this is rare unless the guy had 200 horses).

Honestly -- I have never seen or heard of a horse being driven by one person to would attack another.

How would you do that? What would make the horse want to run over someone who wasn't hitting him with the rope?

I own and ride two, and have been around lots more, and I've never, ever heard of such a thing.

HERE HERE for arsenals. My new (to me) S&W 659:
