Yesterday I had my iPhone plugged into my computer. It is running the current version of software, 4.3.1 but iTunes stated that there was an upgrade available for iTunes. I clicked to let it do it thing. About an hour later I notice an error message on my iPhone stating the reset of the phone is necessary.

iTunes also stated the same error. My only choice was to do a restore, which I did and everything got eventually back to normal . But I have never seen that happen before. I did not lose any data because the restore also put all my old data from a backup that it had made an hour earlier.

Anyone else see this with the latest iTunes update?

I've been having problems all week, since the new version of iOS and iTunes. iTunes will not do the backup and right now, Safari on the iPod Touch is hosed. I can't do a restore because I haven't been able to get a backup for a week.

Whenever I startup iTunes with the iPod connected, I get this message

"iTunes was unable to load data class information from Sync Services. Reconnect or try again later".

Not a happy camper, either. Looking at Apple Forum, this seems to be a hot topic but at this point, Apple hasn't responded.

MacOSX 10.6.6
iTunes 10.2
iOS 4.2.1 (I've downloaded 4.3.1 but haven't installed it yet)

I NEVER upgrade the iphone OS for at least 4 weeks after they release it. Check the forums, watch the threads, let the bugs get worked out or at least be aware of any ill symptoms. I have the 3GS, so most of the current OS upgrades don't mean big changes for me anyway, as compared to the iPhone 4 or Ipad.

Oh, I think what I've seen is that things went better if iTunes was upgraded to 10.2.1 first, and then the iOS device upgraded to 4.3/4.3.1.

Which versions of iTunes were you running pre- and post- update, Scott?

Based on the info you provided, I'd reinstall iTunes and then try to resync the iPhone.

Post was 10.2.1 (1) I am not sure what I had before, but I almost always have it as the latest version.

My wife had all kinds of problems with the updates, including that of which you speak. It took her a day to get it all worked out. My "upgrade" went without flaw.
Post update we both notice that battery life has denigrated (if that was even possible) and the swipe on the home screen is not as responsive.

Guess I'm lucky that I have a 3G that they don't update any more...
