I'm partway through my IR training. I've got ~14 hours of dual, a few hours of ground instruction and have read through the Instrument Flying Handbook and woked on the Gleim Test Prep book. I've stopped active training due to money & time for a couple of years (although I did re-read the Instrument Flying Handbook recently). I think a weekend "git-r-done" written prep would help me bring it all together for the written.

Does anybody have experience with any of these courses? I'd be looking for one within easy (say 1 tank of gas in a C-172) flying range of Orlando.

I did one back in the 80s and learned a lot in those two intense days. Made a 98 or so on the test. I still think about things that were presented that weekend. Of course, one of the instructors was Jack Eggspuehler so that helped.

The standard canned answer probably applies here: Depends on your learning style.

I did something similar but instead used the King IFR course DVDs and just went through them in a weekend cram fashion. That worked for me, but then again I enjoy John and Martha.

Based on my four years' experience as a specialist instrument flight instructor, those courses are very good at getting you ready to take and pass the written test the day after the course, but they are lousy at teaching you what you need to know to complete IR flight training, pass the IR practical test, and fly IFR safely and effectively. IOW, they are useful for prepping for the written, but you'll still need a thorough ground training program to be ready to fly IFR.
