I don't know what it is with me and going to see a doctor of some sort and then flying later in the day, but Wednesday I get to have an MRI done on my shoulder at 9am. Then I bust hump from there to pick up my soon to be ex-plane from the annual/pre-buy inspection for the owner. Check to make sure the funds have been wired to my account, then take off and meet him "half-way" because the weather up here is going to be junk for who knows how long and the flights up here aren't condusive to him being able to get up here and back in the same day. So, I'll leave Michigan, meet him in RDU (same drive time from Hilton Head as it is for me to fly there from here) then with not a whole heck of a lot of time to spare in RDU, hop a United flight back home which should arrive a little before midnight in Grand Rapids.

Well, at least I'll get a decent "goodbye" flight out of it.

It's ok, I'm already planning on being in Maryland (HGR) the 1st week of Febtober to inspect and take home my next money pit! :D

Hey, HGR is near the airport I was looking to go into as a partnership - the one I asked you advice about.

If you're around I'll probably be there most of the week. Tim is at FDK, maybe a mini-POA in.

Oh, but all my money gets spent here, that's ok. :D

when in Feb? My nephew's birthday is the 20th which means whichever wkd they pick for the party I will be in PA. otherwise I should be here.

3rd/4th ---> the whenever. Inspection/annual will take about 25 man hours I guess. I'll probably get there on Sunday or Monday evening. If it ends up being a real POS, I might leave Monday or Tuesday, if all goes well, probably leave Friday. I don't anticipate having a lot going on once the IA is done for each day.

2.7 more solo XC hours to go and a dual night XC. Then the crying I mean testing begins. (is there crying in flying?)

lol! (way off topic I just saw your sig) The answer is hell Yes, and don't let the guys tell you diffrently. I cried after my long x-c, mainly because I wanted to be a pilot so bad and after that flight I was asking myself could I really do it??? (multiple things challenged me on the long x-c) I stoped crying when I decided that I made it through the challenges without bent airplane parts nor truely being lost for any great length of time, and did not bust airspace. Get that night x-c done now before it starts getting too light too late.

Missa

Shhh, I have seen a lot of male pilots cry, usually right after they get their bill for the annual :hairraise::hairraise::(:(:D:D:D

hee. I wondered if anyone ever read that.

Have you had a MRI before? Ever get claustrophobic?
I had a hard time but I lived through it. I kept my eyes closed the whole time. The longest 15 minutes of my life.

I know what the MRI entails. I'm not claustrophobic. Can you imaging being that AND agoraphobic as well?

....and the plane has a new owner.

hee. I wondered if anyone ever read that.

I certainly have read it.

No crying in flying yet for me, but then again I haven't had any royal screw-ups yet, other than putting the 172 into a spin while doing a power-on stall, and then last week forgetting to turn my brain on (that ought to be first item on the check list... which I wasn't paying close enough attention to anyway that day) and trying to do a power off landing that my path got compromised because of another plane (I picked a bad point to kill the engine given the fact that I couldn't declare an actual emergency landing), ending up with the nose trimmed pretty well up for best glide speed, then realizing I wasn't going to make it so adding power and flaps before readjusting the trim (oops) and then having the nose try to go waaay up on me. Got the plane back on the ground and then banged my head against a wall for what a crappy flight it was in my opinion overall. Then I realized that, even with my screw-up, my landing was better than any of my landings when I soloed, and that was a day my brain was actually working! What a difference practice makes.

Takes a lot to make me cry usually... last time I cried was over my friend who got shot last year (that was a lot of crying for a long time). Most things in life are just so insignificant in comparison to the major problems we face, I try to just take the smaller things as they come and roll with it.

You'll get there! I haven't had a lesson since late November due to weather or other factors, and it looks like this Saturday is going to get cancelled due to weather again. ARG! But what Missa said about getting your night XC in now while it's dark out is very true - once it doesn't start getting dark until 9 it'll be a lot harder to make night XCs!

last week forgetting to turn my brain on (that ought to be first item on the check list... which I wasn't paying close enough attention to anyway that day)

LOL... I've been thinking for quite a while that the first two items on my checklist should be:

1) Take the checklist out of the flight bag.
2) You idiot, you left the airplane keys in the car.

I don't recall crying over a flying screw-up, but I've come close a couple times when seriously frustrated by an airplane maintenance issue (probably felt more like screaming than crying but that's a subtle difference IMO). I did get rather "misty eyed" watching the Bonanza I'd owned for 10 years fly away piloted by it's new owner.

ive had a few near tear moments so far, nothing shed though. but i'd say there is definitely a place for crying and airplanes.
