Wed AM - lunar eclipse

I hope to see it, but I don't have a clear view of the horizon. The only reason to be able to see both the sun and the eclipsed moon at the same time is because of atmospheric refraction. Science is cool!

Of course you can see both - go flying!!!

Wed will also feature a 'blood' moon.

Path of totality in the attachment.

Split the difference for Colorado, call it 4:10 am MDT.

Its a good day (night) to be in Hawaii -- when isn't it? -- if you're into this sort of thing.

Steve Tupper (Airspeed Podcast) did an episode about planning to chase the moon's shadow across the landscape during the total solar eclipse in 2017 (the last one visible in the US this decade). http://airspeedonline.com/2011/11/flying-through-the-totality/

Bummer, only 33% in this area...if I'm correctly interpreting the table. :(

Not a bummer. The farther west you are, the more advanced the eclipse will be at moonset. You will see almost the whole eclipse, up to 33% on the backside. If I was home in Detroit, it would be 72% on the backside. Whereas here on the East Coast, the Moon will still be on the way into the umbra, or barely total when it sets. Hardly worth it to try to see the eclipse, and the forecast is for overcast skies anyway.

Saw it from slightly more that half to full this morning. I didn't know that there was an eclipse, so when I saw what looked at a casual glance to be a crescent moon this morning and remembered last night's full moon, I was puzzled. It took a while to figure it out.

Got a pretty good view just before moonset/sunrise. There was a small section that was bright, the rest was reddish brown.

Beautiful clear sky here in SoCal. I watched the entire thing unfold.

My friend in Fort Myers saw only a reddish glow on the horizon. At least the high ceiling didn't interfere.

Not much red here either, mostly brownish-gray and had a bit of hazy thin high clouds obscuring it somewhat in the western sky here but still got to see it pretty good thru the clouds

we had beautiful clear skies and a bit of red here. and it was still well above the horizon to be fully appreciated without driving to a spot with a better view than I have at the house.

I was able to watch it from my living room this morning. Good red color and I would say 95% covered. Still pretty good view when I left for work an hour later.

What, nobody had a camera??? It was foggy here this morning . . .

By the way - When I looked that AM, if someone was on the moon looking back at me at the same time, it would look like this (at 6AM Central).
