...but watch it alone, without family members present. The pilot involved held an ATP, owned more than one airplane, flew a jet (not clear if he owned it) and was in all respects someone we would all look up to...and still will, after we absorb his valuable lesson.

Wow, I just watched the whole thing and it made me tear up. My natural reaction is what can be done to help avoid such an event in the future. I'm not sure how a gear alarm works in an amphibious plane, but the video seemed to say there was one that went unnoticed. I think having that alarm wired into the intercom so it's impossible not to notice would be a good idea.

Also I think it would be a good idea for seaplane pilots (and maybe other single engine pilots flying over water) to carry something like this:

Seems like it could possibly buy you some time if your plane went underwater and possibly allow you to save passengers.

Yeah that's a sobering video. It was a required safety video this month in the company I fly for. Use checklists and visually check everything you do. Still, accidents will happen.

Incredibly moving, and very well done. Hard not to almost tear up at that story.

Very moving video and rather hard to watch. What makes me mad, is it was a very simple thing that could have been prevented.

I was at Arlington that day and remember watching the three planes depart for Lake Godwin. It was a very tragic day, one I will not forget. I hope this video gets viewed by as many pilots as possible. RIP Jacob.

Nicely done. Yet another reminder that complacency always has a price, sometimes one almost too high to bear, and that checklists exist for a reason.

That was hard to watch, I can't imagine the pain of surviving an accident that killed someone, especially a child.
It takes a lot to go through that and then participate in the video.
