Okay, Ghery, I have to say it. What do you have against Idaho? Your flight map somehow skips Idaho and goes from Oregon to that square state east of Idaho (Yeah, my geography sucks, blame the public school). Are you potato-phobic? I was in Salmon in August. It was my first time in Idaho. It seemed like a very nice state.
The priest on Sunday commented about how many parishioners in Salmon had cancer. I did not get specific numbers, but it sounded like an epidemic. Is there a health problem along the Salmon River? Is this why you are avoiding the state?

If I lived that close to ID I'd fly there all the time. Backcountry flying in the Frank Church Wilderness? Fun, fun, fun!!!

Nothing against Idaho. Heck, I grew up in Pullman, WA, a whole 8 miles from Moscow. Sister-in-law and her family live south of Moscow. I learned to sail on a couple of lakes there when I was growing up. Spent more time skiing there as a kid that I can count. I just haven't had a reason to land a plane there. Wyoming was a take off and landing at the same airport - Jackson Hole. Now, I've flow over a small part of Idaho, but that flight originated and ended at PUW.

Those back country strips sound like a boatload of fun, but they aren't paved and club rules require paved runways. Spoil sports!

Time to have a vote on changing the rules. I landed on them in a 182 with wheel pants. No worries. You need to get on this!!!!!!!!:yesnod:

Big Creek -- BEEEYOOOOTIIIIFULLLLLLL!!!!

Couer d'Alene and that northern area of Idaho is almost paradise

Try "The whole darn state is almost paradise." Couer d'Alene is beautiful,

but then there's all the spots with backcountry strips,

and there's mountains, and... I love Idaho. They do, however, tend to have an overabundance of snow on Lookout Pass at the Montana border:

If you like Coeur d'Alene, you'll love Sandpoint. It's CdA, but with a better lake, a great ski mountain, and quieter. Too bad so many Californians moved up there, but it's still a great place.

I shouldn't say this as we try to keep the place a secret, but Priest Lake is even better. No skiing there, but it's what Lake Tahoe was like 40 years ago. But I agree about Sandpoint over CdA. Hands down. Great skiing at Schweitzer. Has been for decades. (oh, and it hurts to admit that I know that from first hand experience)

And a 3hr drive gets you to Fernie!!!!!!!!! They don't call it Snow Valley for nothing!

IIRC, that would be Wyoming
Sorry! Why don't they give it a thumb or something. These generic square states confuse me. What? Is it UTAH? New Mexico? Colorado? Florida looks like an outboard motor. Nobody ever forgets Florida, do they? It's just a lack of creativity that stifles the identity of these generic states. The Keystone State...that shape has pizzazz. Nobody ever forgets the Keystone State. Nebraska looks like a locomotive - unforgettable!
So I'm guilty. Although I did visit Wyoming this past August. It was the only state along the Lewis and Clark Trail that did not have tons of "Ron Paul for President" signs. So I do remember that about generic square state number 7.

<SNIP> Nebraska looks like a locomotive - unforgettable!
<SNIP>

I never associated the shape with that of a locomotive before, but you're right. Appropriate with all the trains that run along here.
