Are you an aviator who is passionate about flying? Are you an excellent communicator who is comfortable speaking to groups of people and the media? Do you have the outstanding management skills required to oversee the airship team? If this sounds like you, this could be your chance to pilot one of the world's most recognized symbols, the Spirit of America! This is a rare and exciting opportunity for a dedicated aviator to experience the control and handling of an aircraft as unique as the Goodyear blimp. Not only that, you will have the opportunity to earn your “Lighter-Than-Air Certification” as a Goodyear Blimp Pilot! Even if you already have it, you've got to admit that the chance to pilot one of the world's most recognized icons is just too great to pass up.

hmmmmmm

that sounds like fun, but ive heard that blimp pilot hours are brutal. better not have a home life at all, because it takes a long time to fly between sporting events at 40 knots.

That would be fun.

But, why not put a nose on it like a Piaggio and add a couple turbofans? You'd have a HUGE catfish in the air. :)

Hehe they must have canned that annoying FO from the commercials :-)

Pete

I exceed each of those requirements and already travel almost as much. If I get laid off int eh next couple of week I know what I am going to apply for.

Mark Grady who does many of the ASF seminars has two interesting pieces in his aviation background. One was flying over 6,000 hours in a 152 doing traffic watch over Raleigh-Durham. When he's stated he had that much time in a 152, the question was... "Was that before or after the checkride?" The other is flying the Blockbuster blimp.

He said that wasn't the time for ATC to be messing with him. He'd theaten to fly an ILS... taking about 45 minutes for the full approach. :)

I seem to recall a story about one of the blimps in France. They were asked to hold over a VOR, so they did exactly that. Headed into the wind, matched its speed and held, directly over the VOR. ATC was really wondering what the heck was going on. :D

Well, I've promised myself and my family that as soon as I accumulate sufficient FU-Money (currently $400K) I will quit my six figure engineering job and go into aviation full-time. So if I hit the lottery this weekend I will be applying with Goodyear on Monday.
