Why is it necessary to place a TFR over a historic accident investigation?

Too many lookie-loos could create an unsafe environment for the investigators? All they need is a distracted pilot low and slow turning circles over them and stall/spinning it into the site or a nearby midair.

Usually it is to provide separation between the search and recovery aircraft and anyone who might be gawking.....particularly media types.

Same reason for TFRs around firefighting ops

Over a glacier in BFE Alaska?

Didn't the Russians find a P-39 in a lake recently with the pilot's remains also in it? I read about it somewhere, but I forget where. It may have been in the Smithsonian avaition mag.

I would be interesting to know the story behind the crash. It must be like finding a time capsule.
