Final Approach
How many are going to jump?
I'm Sprint, otherwise I'd be tempted... so far my berry does just fine though.

I agree. I have an AT&T iPhone but the phone assigned to the airplane is Verizon. Sometimes one works better than the other but I wouldn't say that there is a clear winner.I'm personally not too excited about the Verizon network. The grass is always greener on the other side.
I was a Verizon customer for years and don't remember anything about their service being spectacular. I dropped TONS of calls on an interstate drive.
Verizon service is lacking in a few places where I really need it. When Danielle and I were driving a lot over the holidays her Verizon phone didn't ever perform where mine didn't. Verizon often cuts her off during our phone calls at night and the service will go down for 10 minutes or so.
Every carrier has their problems. I see no reason to jump ship.

You should do it. You need my apps. And possibly any gliding ones you can think up that could selli'm already on verizon and i think i have an upgrade coming in the next few months. would be very tempting
Before you upgrade make sure you know what the LTE coverage is in your area. If you do not have enough you might want to wait.i'm already on verizon and i think i have an upgrade coming in the next few months. would be very tempting
That's assuming that the new iPhone even supports LTE. Or do you know something we don't know? Before you upgrade make sure you know what the LTE coverage is in your area. If you do not have enough you might want to wait.

The future is brighter with Android.

I am still stuck on Android 2.1 MotorolaMobility delayed their upgrade to 2.2 for the Mileston again. I swear everyone will be on 3.0 before I get to 2.2.The future is brighter with Android.

Well first Apple did not go exclusively with AT&T. The arrangement between Apple and AT&T is only for the US market. But again it was not entirely Apple. Cellphone customers are NOT the end user. Let me say that again in another way. No one here is a cellphone customer. You are all cell phone service customers.
The cellphone manufacturers do not sell to you, they sell to cellphone carriers. So the customers are Alltel, Sprint, AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile. Those customers dictate terms and carry lots of influence with the manufacturers. Apple put out their smart phone and offered it to the only two customers in the US, T-Mobile and AT&T, that could use it based on the air interface technology. The air interface for the other carriers is a much smaller market globally and the devices are driven to very small margins. Apple saw no profit in them and went with the other larger market technology.
It then came down to AT&T being able to offer the larger market and potential sales. They dictated the terms to Apple on the exclusivity deal. That is not a position that is unique. Verizon did the same thing a few years ago with the Motorola Razor.
Now that Alltel will be going away, as it has been bought by Verizon, expect a lot of changes to the CDMA market to be driven by Verizon as Sprint is shrinking their CDMA market and is now deploying WiMAX technology. Globably the only major operators left for CDMA are Sprint, Verizon/Alltel, and KDDI (Japan). There are a few smaller operators but they command no influence to any technology vendor at all when compared to Verizon and KDDI, even Sprint's voice on CDMA is limited. Sprint however carries lots of influence on WiMAX as they are the largest western hemisphere operator.
Sprint also recently announced a merger with Clearwire (data company) and rumors are abounding that the parent company of T-Mobile will buy the Sprint Nextel business and convert all of that technology to perhaps something called LTE in the next decade (which is real close BTW) or perhaps some other evolution of their GSM/HSPA technology.
In some ways that is true - in others it's not. For example good luck finding an app that is equivlant to Foreflight on Android right now. People really need to look at what they want to do before they pick the device.I will stay away from the device talk, except to say that Android will do anything iPhone will do with less upfront and ongoing cost. That's huge to me.

My major issue with Android right now is how outdated the Android install is on many of the phones. The carriers simply aren't pushing updates to people or are doing it really really slow which really makes it a pain in the ass for developers.
The nice thing about the iPhone is that the carrier does not control the iOS update cycle, Apple does, and they have been doing timely releases which are easy for a user to update to (and most do).
The iPhone has the WhyFies too!!I have a droid on Verizon now. I will get a new iphone on verizon the day they come out. For me I think the verizon network is the best but the iphone is by far the best phone. I put up with this droid for to long. Iphone here I come... Anyone want to buy a droid? It's all about the apps to me and android apps suck. Esp. for flying.
And this is a structural flaw in the business model.... My major issue with Android right now is how outdated the Android install is on many of the phones...

Not directed at Denny, just funny
It is all about the apps to me too.But bottom line is it is all about the apps to me. Esp. the aviation apps. Droid sucks in that department.

So are you switching? If not which aviation apps are good on android. How do you file IFR flight plan on the droid.(please don't say call) I don't know of any good aps for aviation on android market. ie. foreflight
I use fltplan.com for filing from the Droid. Admittedly nowhere near what FF can do. OTOH, the iPad blows the iPhone out of the water for the use of FF anyway. So are you switching? Use the web browser and file using the DUAT website.
Still a while before my upgrade every 2 years on Verizon. And I'm perfectly happy with my Droid. We'll see later on...
That is convenient Lol
Pretty common stuff, unfortunately. Garmin had a problem with daylight savings a couple years back. I recall Windows having similar issues. As much as I enjoy the iphone I find it incredibly hilarious that the danged alarm was DOA on New Years day. Talk about basic programming snafus.
So, were you looking for functionality or convenience? If you want convenience, let god Jobs tell you what you can buy, when you can buy it, what network you can use it on, and what apps you can have. You want functionality, get an Android.
Like I said I have a droid. I can't wait to put it on eBay.....
So then why did you buy it? And please do come back to us in a year, when you have the iPhone, and then tell us its on ebay too. Some people are never happy.
