My morning has been fun. I never go to the tire place on Fridays. They’re always slammed. I’m vehicle number 14 in line.

The cap seized on the valve stem on one of the Yukon wheels... and getting it off meant twisting it hard enough to snap part of the stem off.

I’m just glad the bastard didn’t snap off lower and dump all the air out.

@jesse keeps joking with me privately that I’m going to love that new F-150 when I finally get POed enough at all these old vehicles. LOL.

I changed out every headlight and both driving lights on the Subaru last night to go up to the newer style (lower life but whiter and brighter output) bulbs on all of them, and it looks great for my Winter county road driving.

But I’m pretty much convinced some Japanese engineer somewhere deserves a kick square in the balls for the design of both the crappy lighting and how to get at all the bulbs to service them.

Those stupid ass plastic clips to hold the underbody plastic on are completely retarded. And H1 style bulbs. Also retarded.

Pretty sure the Yukon has integrated TPMS in the valve stem that’s not separate. So I’ll be getting a new TPMS sensor too. And I bet $20 it’s not the one with a low battery that ******* all the time. Would be nice if it was that one. LOL.

Some day you should pick a day and stay in bed all day and not get up until the next day. You might have a “normal” day that way. Lol

That is no joke. I changed one headlight bulb on my wifes Subaru and when I came in the house, she thought I had fallen off the roof and rolled down the hill, then got stomped on by the neighbors horses.... And this was from changing one stupid head light bulb..!!!!

When you get the F-150, be sure to get the dresses that come with it to match your shoes..... A friend of mine bought a used '17 F-150. Man that thing is one option short of being a ladies dressing room.....He bought it because he needed a daily driver like a car, he kept his Duramax for when he needs to work, like carrying groceries home...:lol::lol:

He's right.

Today I drove the E55 to work. Laurie took our son with her to work for the day, so I didn't need to take him to school. The poor E55 hasn't been driven in a week or two, so I decided to put a few miles on it.

Now, I really do like this car. It's fast, handles well, and will outrun most other things on the road. Has a few things that it needs, but still it drives nicely, especially for almost 214,000 miles on the clock. But after having driven my new Ram pretty much every day for the past month and a half, this car just feels old. Not "classic", but old. And really if polished up you would think it had under 100k on it by looking at the thing.

Yesterday the first payment on the Ram got deducted from my bank account. I didn't feel badly or remorseful about it at all. Yeah, there's a good sum more payments to go, and by the end I'm sure I'll be ready to be done with payments. But for someone who's spent the past 15 years trying to avoid payments for anything other than a mortgage, for this truck, I don't mind.

I somewhat debate how much sense it makes to keep the E55. It's mostly become Laurie's car for her commuting, but I don't expect her to drive it much between now and Spring. She loves the GL550 and with winter coming, she'll want the all wheel drive when on trips. Even though she loves the power of the E55 for passing on 2-lane roads, the GL550 isn't that much slower.

We just put some decent money into the E55 for a new brake module, new charcoal canister, and new purge valve (the latter two addressed some of the check engine codes and rough running that it had). It'll need tires before too long, but with the minimal use I can probably put that off until next Spring. I'm more or less figuring that we keep it around as the spare vehicle/beater for the time being. Downgrading to 2 vehicles in the house hasn't worked for us well in the past when we've done it.

I hope not more than 2 or 3 years worth of payments.

The only reason I got a 10 year mortgage on the house is because they don't offer a 5 year mortgage. Ok, so I just double the monthly payments.....

I am finally getting the car population down. We are down to 2 trucks and 3 cars for 3 people...I need to get rid of one more vehicle, and we can't agree which one that will be.

Good luck paying less than $35 for the new TPMS sensor, plus tire mounting charge. Our '07 GMC Sierra just got new tires and every one of those damn TPMS sensors has no battery power left. I didn't feel like dropping $150 for new sensors from Amazon+install just to turn off the dash light. What a load of crap.

No kidding. That’s just how this whole year has gone. Ha.

I really should have driven the Subaru up on the ramps to do the driving lights. I was doing an excellent impression of my dad and grandfather both under there, cussing at the little plastic clip that holds the stupid rock guard up though. Definitely R-rated profanities coming from under the car in the garage last night.

@jesse probably has a line on a good place to get those dresses. I’ll ask. LOL.

I save the X rated profanities for when @SixPapaCharlie or the Monkey visit. Hahah.

Yup. Damn that crap. They put it all over our dirt road trying to “solidify” it a couple of years ago and everything has surface rust under the vehicles and on the wheels now. Hate that sticky crap. Useless for the road too. It was destroyed in a month.

$62 installed and balanced. Installation and balancing was “free”. Which is why all three other sensors are original from 2004 and barely still working as long as it’s not too cold out. Hahaha. Not paying $240 total for that crap. I have a tire gauge.

Okay not really. I probably would have replaced them at the last tire change because they’re getting annoying in winter, but the place was out of stock on them that day. Which would have kept this from happening. Maybe.

I abandoned Japanese cars as the process to do pretty much ANYTHING on those vehicles is just stupid. Design by consensus means you'll be pulling bumpers and headlight assemblies to change bulbs, and removing a good amount of brackets to get at brake pads. Let's not forget the oil filter placement that is designed to leak hot oil all over you and a hot catalytic converter. Keep a fire extinguisher nearby just in case.

I get that they're reliable. Just not easily serviceable. I went to German vehicles because access is logically laid out. Yeah, you need some special Torx bits/screwdrivers, but once you have them, you can do most anything.

Good thing you didn't snap off that Schrader valve! I would recommend plastic caps for those valves. But if you've got metal valve stem caps, use some anti-sieze. I use anti-sieze on the lug bolts and hubs on my vehicles as well. Just check torque on the lugnuts / lug bolts once in a while.

No car repair is complete until you're bleeding and cursing like a sailor. Bonus points if you wing a wrench off into the corner of the garage...

Double bonus points if the wrench becomes a projectile because it slipped with torque on it, AND you skin all the knuckles on one hand in the same failed operation.

Or if you snapped the wrench by putting a really big breaker bar on it. Ha.

I always considered it a bonus if I completed a job with all my skin intact. Cuts and scrapes were standard.

I worked with and on heavy equipment for about eight years. Leaving parts of bodies on the job site, even just skin or blood was generally to be avoided. Started doing owner stuff on airplanes and it was sorta like starting over learning to work in tight spaces and with sharp edges.

All that said it still bothers me to see someone set themselves up for injury by holding a wrench wrong or not using it carefully. Using body parts to pad steel on steel interference is a bad idea...

I've always maintained that engineers must hate mechanics because of how they design things to almost guarantee scraped knuckles. Bastards!

I was walking through the Walmart parking lot yesterday and saw two different vehicles with valve stems that looked just like this..... and they are still being driven on the road.....

Amazing. Probably the same people who live in my county who didn’t understand during the recent debate as to whether to pave a bad substandard road, that they’re paying the $400/year on either vehicle repairs or the road, doesn’t matter which. It’s a wash.

If... you actually maintain your vehicles that is. SMH.

I would bet that rez roads make your substandard road look like the autobahn.... If, and that is a big if, I have to drive a rez road I usually drive at about 3 MPH. The local rez inhabitants whiz by me at 60MPH. I want to keep my suspension where it belongs.

Recently a local reservation received 96 million dollars for road repair. Not a single pothole was filled in, yet the money is pretty much gone.

What about chucking one out an open hatch of the sailboat into the bay when you bust your knuckles open?
