Just arrived in Brownsville TX a couple weeks ago for scrapping. Love these old deck vids. Bridles, hold back cables, big chunk of rubber missing from a Vigi nose wheel at 2:30. Amazing how such a large aircraft only had a single nose wheel.

I know it's inevitable, but she deserved better.

Yeah you’d think a carrier of this historic importance would’ve been preserved for a museum piece. I guess there wasn’t enough support (funds) to make it happen. Sold for 1 cent to be dismantled. :(
 
One of my very best friends was her last CO. He said the Japanese ship yard workers always took exceptional pride when working on her and while old, she could have gone longer.
