USA Today ... again

I like the crossword puzzles...

Only when it is dumped at the door to my hotel room. I sure wouldn't go out of my way to buy a copy. A complete waste of ink and newsprint.

In an unscientific survey I would say it's the most opened paper on the airplane by the pax. They usually have a choice of USA, NYT, WSJ and Denver Post.

Actually, you're paying $0.50 for those at most hotels. You need to opt out of delivery, and they'll credit the account. At least according to the fine print at many of the hotels where I've received them. In fact I was thinking after I saw this latest travesty of alleged journalism that I'd make a point of declining it henceforth!

Good point -- I'll join that 4 bit crusade!! :yesnod:

I never know that! I'll try it next time I travel.

I think everyone can understand that bad news sells WAY better than good news. If the news paper said, "the airport is only there for rich people, why should we have to pay for it?" Rather than, "although small airports may seem pointless to many, they in fact have a purpose for all such as: medevac, mail service, disaster relief, etc," the customer is more likely to agree with the drama. People like drama. Now take that drama and combine their money in the process. "I agree, why should I HAVE to pay for something I never use? They shouldn't be allowed to use MY money! I have caught myself thinking this before when it came to someone mentioning having to pay for the public school system. "Well I don't have kids, why should I have to pay for them to go to school?" And then it hits you what you just said. So, in a sense, I understand what people mean. What is important here is that people understand where their money is going to and why it benefits them.

NYC Mayor Bloomberg was on Meet the Press last week and he blamed the news media for contributing to some of the problems that the country is in. I think that he said it best when he said the new mantra in the media is "if it bleeds, it leads and if it doesn't bleed then go get a knife."

The height of arrogance -- Bloomberg blames the media when he *is* the media?

Anyone notice how often Bloomberg had to chime in on the Plaxico Burress case?

Keep in mind that he hasn't tried to close NYC airspace after the Cory Lidle incident or 9/11 (I know he wasn't mayor then, but he could have tried to "patch a hole") unlike the mayor of another large city that wanted his own Disney style TFR.

True -- at least Bloomberg isn't Daley. But he has his own fear crusade.

Acutally I question where else do you get a USAToday other than in a hotel or airport? Does it actually get delivered anywhere?

I wonder that as well. Some hotels leave both USA Today and the local paper out. I always choose the local paper since the news is generally relevent and they also have comics. I tired of USA Today's class warfare opinions long ago.

You can pay for a subscription to McNews. Why anyone would want to, I'll never know.

They do claptrap like this because they cater to the traveler: ergo, they are simply promoting an agenda to the folks they think will help get that agenda enacted.

They must not understand the business traveler market...

The community college that I'm working at has one of their routine department advertisements up to drum up business for media journalism: "Don't Just Read The News, Make It."

I haven't seen the news or a newspaper in 15+ years now and even then by random chance blundering across it. (watching 9-11 stuff was kind of intentional however they were wrong about GA being the threat) Back then it was bordering on bad dope induced bipolar fantasy fiction hallucinations. I'm just guessing that they haven't changed their ways except to probably fabricate more nonsense than they were last I looked.
