United grounds all flights

I just got back to Hartford today after a red eye SFO to IAD last night. Something was going on because my upgrade info didn't make sense. I got seat 1A on the 737. I can't complain, no screaming babies.neverything was on time!

Unless things have changed, I think UAL does all software inhouse, altho the original reservation system Apollo has been superceeded by Continental's SHARES.

United created Apollo then sold it to TravelPort and went into a lease agreement. Apollo was located here in Denver (I interviewed there many years ago, neither side was impressed with the other) but it's moved to ATL. If you ever wander around the business areas near KAPA, you'll see a low building with a very serious fence around it. Used to be the data center, altho crew training was (and still is for the time being) near Stapleton. (former KDEN)

From the Washington Post:
The airline said a router malfunction was to blame but wouldn’t elaborate.

That's what I was thinking. There are lots of pieces in a large wide area network, and some times they just don't get along, especially after a software update. It happened to our firewall a few years ago, we applied the latest software update and a number of things just stopped working. We had to revert back for a while until the vendor got that software patched.

As I keep telling my boss, we're only as good as our vendors.

I'd be interested to have a ref for this mentioned 'software/code upgrade' that happened during business hours to a live application/switch/router/server/cluster?

I wonder if it was load related, and didn't show itself until the packet count got crazy high.

Gotta be a hack. I saw a tweet by Anon that said that today would be an "Interesting day in Wall Street."

These types of coincidences between multiple systems don't just happen.

I kinda wish they'd left it down considering the way my investments did today...
