So I installed the trial version of MS Publisher in order to do one task to a photograph collage. I completed the task and noted that it had also installed a trial version of MS Word. All Word documents now had a very new appearance to the menus etc.

So I went to Install/Uninstall pgms and selected MS Word making sure it said TRIAL VERSION and uninstalled that.
Now my version of Word is GONE! Excel too! and who knows what else!!

Restore?

Unfortunately, no. System Restore will not restore an uninstalled application.

You'll have to reinstall the applications.

There's an off chance the source may be on your hard drive somewhere, for example in a hidden folder C:\MSOCache. Otherwise, you'll need the source CD. You'll also probably need the Product Key in any event.

Install Open Office, and remove yourself from the tyranny of Microsoft's software licensing policies.

And people wonder why some say "Get a Mac"

Sorry to hear of your troubles Dave.

Speaking as a Mac user, I'll say that completely removing
apps is not necessarily trivial with OS X.

What happened was that by installing the newer version of Work, you essentially upgraded the old version. When you uninstalled it, it uninstalled it.

Your only choice is to reinstall the old version of Word.

FWIW, Word 2007 is hands down, 100% better than Word 2003.

edit: And Open Office dot Org is better than both.

Well they sure do need to relabel it so that when you uninstall the TRIAL version it is plain that you are not uninstalling something else. And when you install MS Publisher trial there is no indication that you will be touching Excel or Word. Negligence bordering on deceitful.

I don't disagree on the premise, but the uninstaller did work as expected. After the upgrade happened, the uninstall removed the only version of Word that still existed on the machine. That is as expected.

The unexpected part was the upgrade to Word coming from an install of Publisher.

Ri-i-i-i-ght.

Like Microsoft's released software isn't buggy enough, you want to saddle him with beta? :yikes:
I've been using it for several months now with no problems on anything I've done. To each his own. :D

Unexpected and un-notified part.

All is well, I found the disk.

I would have gone with OO but I like my old stuff! (which he types from his Netscape-like browser!)
