ugh, plane down.

Think we need to make a new section of the forum dedicated to these.

Sad, way too many of these stories lately.

The plane landed within two-thirds of a mile from where children were gathering Easter eggs at Graylyn Inter-national Conference Center.

So sick of reading quotes like that in stories. If there's a group of kids anywhere within a 4 state area of where a plane goes down, we'll hear about the exact proximity of the crash to them. It's like reading about a car accident and having it suddenly start talking about the packed mall across the street that could have been affected if things had gone just the wrong way :rolleyes2:

That's why I don't read the news.

I understand this and have seen some wicked lame reporting, however at least on the initial news article they praised the pilot, saying he did everything he could to stay away from crowded areas. of course that was probably the local paper and as it got more national, so grew the drama.

Statistically 110 people died in car crashes that same day.
I have long thought that news outlets should be held to the same standard as radio and tv stations and have to have a "license" renewed on a regular basis - where the renewal is predicated on whether they have served the public interest for the past 4 years. I believe it would force changes in the area of ignoring auto deaths and sensationalizing every plane/boat/train/what-have-you crash.

While I love fast airplanes they also have fast crash speeds. There are some pilots with whom I would go for a run in a Lancair 4P. An eye doctor from Podunk is not one of them.

denny-o
doctor from a podunk town

Great idea, but they do have licenses to broadcast. The problem is (making your point) no one complains to the FCC. They take the news as Gospel.

I agree,

How many emergencies that go right never make the news? Aviation is treated very similar to gun violence news.
