Two stories on the same page on CNN...

Alabamiam's are at 30% of the fatty's scale! That's cause we deep fry everything from pigs feet to catfish to ice cream. Oh, and we mustn't forget boiled peanuts! YUM! :)

You're not an Alabamian anymore. Lose the fried stuff and join the ranks of us healthy eaters in PA. Cheesesteaks, Italian Hoagies, Scrapple, Soft Pretzels, Tastykakes, Potato Chips..........:D

They failed to address one factor "work ethic" (or lack thereof). They skirted around it with the "but I think that has more to do with Southerners' lack of physical activity rather than the food." statement.

I worked in GA, AL, MS & LA for three years building O'Reilly Auto Parts stores and I pulled my hair out trying to get anything done in a timely fashion...summer, winter or anywhere in between.

I don't necessarily agree with southerners' lack of work ethic but I think culture and the people you are around have a lot to do with it. If you are brought up and associate with many obese people who eat unhealthy foods and don't exercise you start to think that's normal. Conversely, if your family and the people around you eat healthy foods and engage in physical activity you are probably more likely to do so yourself. Living in the leanest state (Colorado) I can see how that works. I do have to say that the physical environment here is more conducive to outdoor activity, especially in the summer, than say, Alabama, though.
