Early in this thread there were already three stories of airplanes that quit on short final or in the rollout. Such behavior is classic carburetor icing and has nothing whatever to do with maintenance and everything to do with pilot training.
The accident database is full of engine failure accidents attributed to carb ice as nothing else could be found to blame the failure upon, and they use the phrase "The conditions were conducive to carburetor ice formation."
