Mendenhall Glacier is 4.5 miles from by back door, it really has retreated a lot in the last 20 years. The Taku Glacier is one of the few glaciers in the Juneau area that is not retreating.

There was a small strip at the base of Taku Glacier we us to fly into, site see and have a picnic lunch. The glacier advanced and the strip was covered up.
 
I met the entire family at SEA - they were all incredibly nice folks.

Love the show as well.
