Truckers: Secure the load and double check with the dock before leaving

All he has to do is back up. :dunno:

(Disclaimer: For Pumpkin juice the above statement is a joke. If I was real funny I would be in Vegas.)

That's one way to get a broker to stop sending you back to Target's warehouse.

I love it how they just stand there and watch. They don't say anything, try to get the driver to stop, nothing. I'd fire them right after I fired the driver. There are gonna be plenty of people looking for work in the next 6 months.

I am not so sure it was those two guys fault. Don't you think they would have closed the back door? It also looked like the one on the left was trying to do something with that piece of wood.

I imagine they wedge the plank in to hold the carts from banging against the door. One lousy 2x4 under the wheels would have been nice.

In order to close the doors the driver has to pull foward to allow the doors to swing closed. He is suppose to pull forward 4-5 feet then stop to make sure the doors are shut. You are probabby right about the wood thing, but the driver didn't give them time to secure it. What ever happened I would still fore them all!

I guess my highschool days of working the docks finally came in handy for something! :yesnod:

The guy had a chance to get in there with the wood before the truck started moving, but didn't. Ya know why? Because he already told the driver it was OK to go. And with docks that close, 4-5 feet isn't good enough to close the doors because they'd hit the adjacent trailer. That's why he pulled out until the back of his trailer was in front of the others.

Regardless, *somebody* shoulda put a strap behind them before the driver pulled out. *Who* that somebody is, depends on whether Target even lets drivers on their dock (many places don't let drivers in). If they let drivers in, it was the driver's fault for not putting the strap on. Otherwise, it was Target's fault.

FWIW, while I never delivered at a Target store that I can remember, I did go to a Target distribution center, and drivers were not allowed on the docks. There was a cage inside the building where drivers could be, and that was it. (And yes, I mean cage. As in, you can look through the fence at the people who are working in the DC - Chain link fence surrounding the driver's entrance, including above.)

I pointed this video out on my LJ, with a note to a trucker friend to check it out...his comment: "Note that this isn't the driver's fault. Target doesn't allow drivers into the warehouses to secure the loads until after they've pulled out... so.. yeah.. totally Target's fault. ::grin::"

He's right about Target warehouses, as I pointed out in my last post, but this one looked like it might be a Target store to me, which might be different. Kinda hard to tell for sure though.
