Transponder past due by a week?

Okay then avoid Bravo or Charlie until the annual.

ive tried to make these fall at the same time, but it’s pretty much hopeless. The tranponderand altimeter checks are easy. Just call themobile calibration guy. I expect that every area has at least one.

Here’s another idea. Fly fairly tight formation as dash-2, the lead will be squawking, no transponder required.

I that case I think he needs to find his local mobile calibration guy.
But why pay for something twice (Nov & Dec) when he could make flight under a Special Flight Permit for free?

I believe he also wanted to fly IFR, legally, to his annual shop in Nov. It's all in the OP.
In the "first half" of November, which is only 1-14 days after 10/31, so seems like a lot of trouble to avoid just going on 10/31. :dunno:

Fly there on Halloween, stay overnight, do the IFR and transponder checks on November first.

Jesus just go....

I’m surprised someone isn’t suspecting a prop strike on this question from all the comments

Ha. Don't know what trouble you refer to as a ferry permit is usually just a phone call in these circumstances. But considering a lot of PoA'rs think anything beyond a $200 Annual inspection is a "lot of trouble" I always expect the comments above when someone mentions they "just want to stay legal." And just to clarify, I don't mean a $200 owner-assisted Annual.;)

I would ask the FSDO. I hear they are offering a lot of extensions due to COVID. Then when you get to the shop make sure they don’t sign off the transponder check till the annual is done, and you’ll be back in sync.

Can’t be getting boxed in by a date either. What if transponder expires Oct 31st but the weather is bad? Do we try to make it just because it will be expired on the 1st? No!

FYI: I believe the OP wanted his 411/413 checks to line up with his annual month. Performing the checks in Oct/Nov would require a 2nd paid check in Dec.

He may be able to drop his plane off late November next year and get both done in December. That may be something to consider if he can fly vfr to a local airport in November this year to get his IFR check on the plane.

Except the OP wants it done this year and have the ability to file/fly IFR to the shop, legally. ;)

So if he could fly vfr to a more local shop to get certified in November, he'd be good for this year and set up for next year.

I guess you missed the point in Post 1. And it's 2 years on the 411/413 checks...

The Regs don’t call out IFR or VFR. The regs allow you to fly to get it fixed.
