I can confirm the conditions after riding through a somewhat eventful approach and landing in Seat 13F of a MD-80 at 1300 LCL today. Crew handled it well.

I am reminded of the day we arrived at Dallas from the south right as a front with very vigorous winds arrived from the east. Approach is talking to all kinds of diverting aircraft, and as we are overflying KDAL's airspace, I hear a Southwest flight, having been informed of very vigorous crosswinds, say that the PF will have a go at the approach to 13R. We flew right over them as they got close, on our way to our own diversion destination.

I'm not sayin' the wind at ADS was impossible- but it did blow the stucco off the side of my friend's hangar on the west side! We landed at Collin County (KTKI), right behind a smart-aleck in a P-Baron, just in from Wisconsin; got home about an hour later.

OBTW, the Cpt on the Southwest flight happened to be my neighbor - said the FO did a fine job of landing the plane, but that hey then got to sit on th ramp and ride out the storm in the plane, as the rampers were withdrawn inside fr the duration of a lightning-laced storm

Good fun.

Was it Dave S.? :D

What's with the smart-aleck comment <g>.

No s$it, there I was on approach to Addison behind this incredibly composed sounding fella in a V-tail who spoke a distinctive Texas twang. Winds swirled to the left of him; winds swirled to the right, volleyed and thundered!

He diverted to McKinney and I told approach, me too! Long flight back from Wisconsin; may have tried to go on in had you not got me focused on diverting.

Best,

Dave

My sister's flight from Phoenix to Houston was cancelled on Thursday - she was rebooked on the later one, which also got cancelled. She wound up not coming in until Friday evening.
