Set those nav systems on L88 - New Cuyama (population 500) - for a really cool day!

Old timers tell me they remember an airport in a dead town with a terrible runway and no good restaurant.

I guess that all changed recently (AFD says the airport is closed, but it's out of date). The runway is 4000' of new asphault, and the Buckhorn Restaurant re-opened. The whole town is only a short walk from the runway. I saw 3 restaurants - Buckhorn (tri tip, burgers, steaks...excellent!), a hole in the wall burger place, and a combo pizza / greek restaurant.

See attached pics. Can't recommend it enough!

Good news! It used to be a good place to fly for lunch (not much else, though - the town still has little to recommend it).

Cool. Current AF/D still shows it closed. For more info on the new owner and what's going on there see blueskycenter.org. I have some good memories of New Cuyama as a whistle stop on motorcycle rides. Can't wait to check out the airport when I get back down south.
