Tom Cruise Pulls Off 'Impossible' Stunt

I always thought he is just another Hollywood wimp. Obviously I was wrong... :yikes:

I'd hate to have to pay the liability insurance premium for that film production company.

So what sort of waivers from the FAA would they need for something like that?

And if he fell, but didn't hit anyone, would the pilot be in violation of 91.15?

He was a passenger... Had a seat belt (sorta) and shoulder harness... He was given the emergency exit talk and safety slide talk... I don't see anything wrong :D

Y'all miss the point, which Cruise actually mentioned:

Harness or not, if that plane crashed or something went wrong, he couldn't get back inside. He was going to be hanging onto the side of the plane while everything went wrong.

Two safety straps, I can see both of them.

I'd do it for his paycheck. Nooooooo prob.

You assume it was done State side !!!

Airbus A400M...probably NOT done in the US. Considering recent history, that means he had even more guts. :)

I suspect the movie is being made by his own production company, so even the insurance company probably didn't have much influence.

Of course he had a harness! And it still took some stones for him not to have a stuntman do it or for them to CGI it.

"Props" to Cruise for that one.

He would get the same paycheck whether he did the stunt or not. He was not doing it for the money.

Apparently he worked extensively for the underwater scene shot without a cut, training to have underwater breath holds of 6 to 61/2 minutes.

He wasn't cheating, but it's not that big a deal. Anybody could do it.

Anybody?

Many people could - but most wouldn't, they would be too scared. Even with a harness.

I never understood being scared of something that has such a high unlikelihood of hurting you. Oh well, takes all types.

Color me impressed. He could have sent in a stuntman, and had his face computered in. He didn't. He could have made them do the whole thing in a studio with a wind machine. He didn't.

He doesn't need the money, he's already richer than Odin. My guess is he thought it would make the movie better, and he's probably right. Give him props for stones. Take a few away because he's a nit.

Once you shed your body thetans and defeat lord Xenu you can do anything.

Even suck the life force from the Oprah.

Agreed.

I agree, he's got stones.
Some people are adrenaline junkies and can't live a day without doing something crazy. :hairraise:
Some people have ballz and will occasionally do something crazy for fun.
Some people whine and fear all life and will criticize all others for doing crazy things. :dunno:

Cruise likes to do many stunts himself which he proves in every movie. There are many actors who are not scared and love the opportunity to present their real skills to the public. Nothing wrong with that! :)

I'm impressed as well. Takes guts to do the stunt yourself. While I don't agree with his personal beliefs in Thetans and Xenu, now he is in the hardcore stunt club with Jackie Chan.

If the plane crashed, being inside may not have helped very much anyway . . .

He is known for doing his own stunts if possible.
He also called the hardest working actor in the business
If I didn't know he is a religious psycho I might even like him
However, that harness in that stunt was mostly window dressing
Yeah he would not fall to the ground (shrug)
If he lost his grip he would have been whipped and battered against the fuselage like the end of a seatbelt hanging out of your car door at 200 mph
Can you say a bit rattled
So yeah, he has big stones

Yeah, their called Pilots. :goofy::goofy::goofy:

That's what I was thinking but...you know...if SGOTI says "anyone could do it" then I'm sure anyone could do it. :wink2:

I'm gonna feel guilty if I pirate that movie :nono:

When I was younger I skydived and I also rappelled out of helicopters when in the Army. I could see myself being willing to do that stunt back then. Just a matter of trusting your gear, your team and yourself. Not today though as my weight to strength ratio has changed plus my aches and pains linger longer.

I don't think it's a cakewalk because of the force of the wind against the face and head at A400M speeds (over 100kt). Lotsa things could go wrong.

First post. Glad you came out of the shadows.

Anyone ever tried to breathe with wind in your face like that? You could easily asphyxiate.

Pay me what they pay this cult kook I'd be happy to do it too. Looks like fun.
Obviously they hired people that put some thought into it right?
I'm not seeing this as huge stones and OMG it's Tom Croooze!!!
Swoon.... *faints*
