Tips again!

IME, while it is the house that sets the amount of the included tip, usually the staff is given the option of including or not. May be different in Canada.
I don't think Canada is much different than the US with regard to tipping. The only reason I mention Canada is that I have never seen these machines in the US and it seems to me that I was told that parts of Canada were a test market. I would expect to be seeing them in the US before too long... unless the test didn't work.

They've used machines like that in Europe for several years. The handheld machine comes to your table so your card never leaves your sight. Greatly reduces the chance of card skimming.

In Europe, most of the credit cards have chips and require a PIN. Some restaurants over there abhor the American cards that don't have chips because the loss profile is higher.
