This past weekend, as with most weekends, I had another transport and transported 14 dogs to safety. The transport was great fun (the people in Rock Hill are getting to know me pretty well!) and we got some of the best media coverage I think we've gotten to date, or at least I was very happy with how the stories came out, so I thought I'd share.

More transports are scheduled for every weekend this month! Now to pull the cushions from the couch and find a couple thousand dollars hidden there to pay for it... ;)

Sometime when you're down in the Rock Hill area, we'll have to meet up for lunch.

Excellent work you're doing!

Nice Hat :D You must be getting to close to those glider guys

Congrats again on another great transport.

Wow that Oshkosh freebie hat is holding up suprisingly well.

"We can fit 15 to 20 animals at a time," he says, standing in front of his large twin-engine plane.

Large???? are they talking about the Aztruck???

Good job, Ted. This weekend had perfect flying weather if you don't mind the cold. Glad you had the chance.

Definitely! We normally get together for dinner the night before, you'd be welcome to join.

And we have a winner! That is, in fact, my Oshkosh freebie hat.

Their words, not mine. Larger than a Cherokee or a 172!

Thanks for the kind words, all. We'll be doing this again next weekend (and the weekend after... and the weekend after...).

Also, I see the tags of Animal Rescue Flights and ARF. For the record, this transport wasn't arranged through them. This was done strictly as a Cloud Nine transport, as are most of my transports. So for accuracy, it would make sense to remove those tags.

Are you no longer affiliated with ARF? Cloud Nine is your NPO, right?

I'm still an ARF member, but the last time I did a transport coordinated with or involving them was in August. While we both do animal transports, we fill somewhat different niches, and there isn't a need for ARF involvement in my transports, which frees up Julia's time for working on other transports.

Cloud Nine Rescue Flights is my 501(c)3 non-profit that I founded last year. All of the transports I've done since its inception have been Cloud Nine transports.

I think very highly of ARF and of Julia. I haven't and don't intend on breaking any ties there. It just hasn't made as much sense for Cloud Nine and ARF to be have as much mutual involvement in transports. My point was for accuracy purposes, nothing more.

Must resist urge to add a "dog tag" tag :D

I've done both PnP and ARF rescue flights. Julia does a great job organizing group flights. PnP's are a bit more chaotic, but the destinations are a bit more diverse. For ARF, it seems we've worn a groove in the air between FDK and Orange County, NY. I don't care who I fly for. Just looking for something fun to do.
Ted, where do I sign up for Cloud 9?

I think your sentiments are pretty accurate for a number of pilots. ARF has more barriers to entry, and so it ends up getting particular groups that it works with. I can't say enough good things about how much work Julia puts in (I'd often wake up in the morning to find eMails from her at 2:30-3 AM when I was very active with them), and I've never had a problem with an ARF transport.

I am on PnP as well and have gotten a few references through there, but not many. For the most part people hear about me and come directly to me for transports through some sort or another. Because of the uniqueness of the sorts of transports I do, it requires extra coordination and effort on the part of the senders and receivers.

Either one is great, because it gives pilots an opportunity to not only make a difference and help a great cause, but it gives a purpose to the flying we all love to do. I just saw the opportunity that I had with a larger plane and a desire to take longer trips.

Ted, where do I sign up for Cloud 9?

We don't really have a "sign up" other than for volunteers to help out, primarily with fund raising since that's the biggest challenge. If you're interested in helping out with "connection" legs, I'll let you know when such opportunities come up. An example of that would be let's say I have 15 dogs in the plane, 12 are going to Middletown, NY and the other 3 are going to Manchester, NH. Rather than spending the fuel to fly the Aztec up to Manchester, a connection flight would take those remaining 3 dogs up from Middletown, and the pilot would receive an acknowledgement letter that would count for tax deduction. This saves Cloud Nine sevearl hundred dollars, which is a big deal. That doesn't happen that often, but it does happen. Let me know if you're interested, I'll keep you on the list!
