Ack...city life
Who else plans to enter Dec 17 in their flight logs in celebration of man conquering the air (sort of).

Not me.

I submit same occurred on September 20, 1865.

I was supposed to fly tonight but got it rescheduled :(

Well, geez, I really appreciate everyone commemorating the third anniversary of my first solo.

Went to Lone Rock for Lunch today. Fun 1.9 in the DA-40

The only real significance to me about today is 28 years ago I was commissioned as an Army Second Lieutenant. Really feels like a million years ago.

There's an interesting Wikipedia article about competing claims as to who made the first flight:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_flying_machine

Probably one thing they all had in common: none of the pilots were certificated.
A twirling leaf falling from a tree takes flight too but it isn't powered controlled flight.

Wright Bros rightly own the distinction of first flight.

Put another way, do any of those prior claims directly advance aeronautics to lead to that which we enjoy today in heavier than air aircraft? (blimps, dirigibles, etc not included)
