The use of a Courtesy Car?

Best crew car I've been given was a brand new Mercedes S500.... At "millionair"

Isnt that something, LOL, if only all FBO's were that lenient.

I had called ahead several hours prior. They said "well, it's raining here and we're all about to go home, but we'll leave the keys in the truck for ya"

As we were driving off, I thought "gee, I hope we took the right truck. Maybe someone else left their keys in their truck too!"

It had about 250,000 miles on it and looked the part. My 5-year old daughter said "daddy, cool, we are driving a monster truck!"

Wilson Air @ KCHA has the best crew cars! (Qty=3) Brand new Nissan and Volkswagen.

I once flew into Dalton GA (KDNN) and the crew car was out. The guy at the front desk gave me the keys to his personal pickup truck. Talk about customer service!

Wow that is! Top notch

35 years ago.. That was the norm....... I would guess 90% of the FBO's around the country were like that...:yes::)

At Schoolcraft CO(KISQ) the fuel farm is unlocked. Just fill up, write how much fuel you pumped on a ledger, and the city will send you a bill in the mail. We asked someone if they had a problem with people stealing fuel. They said very few, but it still outweighed the cost of adding a credit card machine or paying someone to be there during normal business hours.

Interesting...the cost of self service terminals is not high. That's surprising to hear, especially in this day and age. Of course, now that you posted it, some D-bag out there will ruin it for everyone else...

I have posted here before, but again, my app lists over 1200 cars nationwide. App is free search for "Airport Courtesy Cars" in the Google Play Store or in the iPhone App Store. You can also load it on your iPad by searching for phone apps from the iPad. Glenn

Does it come equipped with the flashing lights and sirens?:lol:

No but it has a spotlight. We try to keep a loaded shotgun and some handcuffs in it.:wink2:

The main goal of our airport commission is to provide a convenient comfortable place for pilots. Self serve fuel 24/7, get the door code off of your aviation maps, car keys in the desk under the computer. If you take the car in the evening for a overnight stay, good for you. It means a night in a local hotel and a couple of meals. Probably a fuel sale.

The airport provides a service to visitors of our fine town, we aren't there to generate revenue for the city. Just like the police, fire, street and parks departments. I wish all airports had this mentality.

I have actually talked transient pilots into spending the night. One larger group of 3 C180's heading from Key West to Montana. Told them where the closest beer was located.

I tried to give a well used Focus to my local airport, and no one cares. I asked a few times, and never heard back. meh, it's a private runway open to public, they can do what they want.

At Shawnee we just fill out a form asking name/phone number/drivers license/tail number so we can keep track of who/what/when. Usually gets fueled up by the pilots and I haven't had to fill it up myself in the time I've worked here. It's been used overnight a few times on some occasions if the pilots were nice and the airport was slow and they were coming back tomorrow early.

I have given pilots and passengers rides in my car when they needed it, one to a rodeo across from the airport, another to a guy who left his truck at a different place in town, and even a guy to an airport for a part about 30-45 away. Most have been incredibly grateful, one guy rode in (just him) on a PC-12 after hours and thought I was his chauffeur (I was working late and was just closing when I heard him enter the pattern). Turns out dispatch dropped the ball and he needed a ride to the casino so I loaded his stuff in and drove about 30 mins there. Did not seem that grateful at all.

Don't let that guy ruin it for everyone else. Take note of the tail number and let him sleep in his PC-12 next time... ;)

Is using Uber a possibility?

If they are available in that city...absolutely. I use Uber all the time in Philadelphia. It's great! You are probably not gonna get it in the middle-of-nowhere Kansas. Doesn't look like Gatlinburg(or Knoxville for that matter) has any Uber cars.

It was either me or a local cab at like 11pm with some fairly expensive baggage. And it would've cost him to boot (although apparently if you can just fly out with golf clubs and 3 other bags to a casino with just you alone in a PC-12 I doubt that's a problem).

I think he was some oil tycoon or something, usually people offer to pay for fuel, not that I expect it because I do the offering if they need a ride, but still. I haven't shied away from taking people where they need to be though, it's good for the airport and it's a pretty nice thing to do. Who knows, you may make some contacts by going out of your way. Or you might get shafted, who knows :yesnod:
