The ultimate pilot watch

Anyone remember the Texas Instument hand held calculator when they came out? $400? All it did was add, subtract, multiply, & divide, no memory. Red LED display? I bought one and thought I was in tall cotton!

Those are just the cheap ones that won't last very long if you play with it. Then you get to buy the good ones.

Actually it says that they are!

Those were absolutely AMAZING!! My brother got one and I was so jealous. I'd take it when he wasn't paying attention and add numbers. Wow. 2+2 really does equal 4!!!!!!!:D

Those LED watches were slick too. Black, until you pressed the button. Wow. Just. Wow.

So how long until the Japanese make his atomic watch tiny?? :D

yep - had one of those. Pretty cool, press the button once and it showed the time, press it again to get the date. I really wish I still had it laying around somewhere, it would be cool to dust it off and wear it again to impress the chicks.

You should have bought the HP-35... :D

Still have mine. Last time I checked it even worked (batteries are shot, of course).

TI SR-10 was a 4 banger with square, square root, inverse and scientific notation. I bought mine in the spring of 1973 for $169.95. Couldn't afford the $395 price tag on the HP 35.

I had one too, bought in fall of 1969 for $400. Also had a Hartmann attache that cost $400, calculator took up half of it. Still have the Hartmann, but handle is busted. I think the display was green.

My mom worked for the late Edward Marcus, who was Chairman of Neiman-Marcus, and the annual catalog (the "Christmas Book") was his baby. Once, visiting The Store, Mr. Marcus showed me the new electronic calculator they were considering selling (at some stunning price I cannot recall). It was several pounds, and had Nixie tubes. I thought it was the coolest thing ever.
