I was in our C340 today and was told to follow traffic and "fly Skyhawk speeds". That was a new one.
As I have mentioned, my plane is (apparently) invisible to ATC radar.
Every approach to every controlled field requires multiple, where am I, how high am I, etc. Then they tell me call 3 or 4 mile final. "OK" says I.
Then, after some period of time, "What is your location, altitude and airspeed?" because it's taking me so long to get there.
I always reply with ground speed then air speed, which is usually 85 mph.
And then the silence.
Finally, knowing they have other faster planes in the pattern I hear: "Can you go any faster?"
My answer is usually something like. "Only if the wings come off."
My local airport handlers know me now, and will ask if they can slot faster planes in front of me while I am still far enough out, or before I turn final.
Lately, the controllers will ask me to fly a right pattern so they can put the faster planes in the left pattern.
