An Australian chap named Chris Malloy has built a hoverbike from motorbike parts, and he claims it can fly at 173 mph at an altitude of 10,000 feet.

...

There isn’t much in the way of safety features with the prototype, but Malloy plans to add a pair of explosive parachutes, or require riders to wear a ‘chute, and cover the props with a mesh to prevent limbs from being lopped off. Malloy also hopes to implement gyroscopic controls with on-board overrides to stop the craft from tipping over.

I like the comment "brb chasing ewoks"

It is unstable.. If he removes the hold down straps it will promptly roll or pitchpole, or both, and he will die...

denny-o

Oh you weinies! That's what they said about Orv and Wil a few decades ago!

Technology exists to make that absolutely stable. No reason at all it shouldn't work.

Looks like a scaled up version of those things they sell at Brookstone.

Probably needs to upgrade to 4 fans to achieve stability.

Or atleast 3, looks like fixed props so how the hell are you supposed to acheve roll stability:dunno:

Or...the Solotrek

This guy whipped it up in no time and managed to fly as much as Moller did in 20 over years of "research."

I like the "10,000 feet" using a motorcycle engine. I have a strong suspiciioon that his "in theory" didnt' account for continuos operation and the effects of low air density at altitude.

Use a Rotax engine like The Mythbusters did or a Lycoming and you're on the right track.

Now I remember it: quadrocopter.

I guess if you dont want use variable pitch props, you could allways use the hydrostatic drive from a zero-turn lawnmower to vary the power output :hairraise: .
